Bringing the Borg back signals the creative death of Star Trek. Its time to put this dog down.

Re: POLL: How Do You Feel About the Borg on Enterp

"probably bad idea"

One one hand I'm disappointed that B&B are going back to the crutches so soon.

On the other hand, this ep would put ENT in a post-FC alternate timeline and thus all REAL Trek continuity is technically safe & unscathed. Of course, it all depends on each person's interpretation of temporal mechanics.

Re: POLL: How Do You Feel About the Borg on Enterp

I'm sorry to say, but it does seem to me to show that the people in charge of the show have turned to old ideas rather than explore the potential of what they have started.

Enterprise could answer many questions about TOS - such as what started the Klingon hostilities that were overcome by TNG. What were the first encounters with the Romulans like? Even the Tholians were given a "the Vulcans already know about them" glimpse.

There is nothing really new to the show. The humans have already perfected their translator (in my opinion the writers simeply didn't want to give Hoshi any more development), and the ship is now evenly matched with almost anyone they meet.

Well, I will still watch in the hope that the series will recapture the sence of newness I had seen in the pilot... Though not for very much longer. The drift towards the Borg strikes me as a crutch and not somethign that should be done for any reason.

This is my great fear - even if Regeneration is the best Enterprise episode of all, it speaks volumes about the intent of TPTB in regards to the show's premise.

This is meant to be a 22nd Century show. If they can only come up with good ideas by "borrowing" 2-bit villains from the 24th Century, then something is plainly wrong. What about the Romulans, or the Orions, or the humans for goodness sakes? Even if we can't get stories with deep and meaningful social commentary, can we at least get stories that are relevant to the bloody time period?

First we get a ship design that makes no chronological sense at all, then we get a theme tune that is better suited to Doctor Phil. Combine this with dozens of rehashed stories involving senior crewmembers being captured/arrested, a refusal on the part of the writers to accept the realities of this situation, several meaningless 'stunt' episodes, one absolutely AWFUL cliffhanger resolution, the incessant forehead-of-the-week meandering and an abhorrently dull musical score, and I quickly get the feeling that TPTB is utterly freaked out by the whole concept of creativity

At least they won't resort to using the Bor..

Wait. I know.

I know. :(

If Enterprise is meant to be a reimagining of the Trek saga, that's fine by me. If it's meant to be a prequel, then that's good also. Either of these possibilities has a lot of potential, but for crying out loud - they have to choose one already! Nothing's more dull than watching a show that doesn't know what it wants to be.

Re: POLL: How Do You Feel About the Borg on Enterp

The only way they can make this work is to pull them into the future and wipe their memories.

Aside from that it's just a plain shit idea.

Re: POLL: How Do You Feel About the Borg on Enterp

It could the best of time, it could be the worst of times to paraphrase Dickens. I think this is really going to depend on how its written and especially resolved.

Re: POLL: How Do You Feel About the Borg on Enterp

I'm coming in late on this one, Sorry.

If we accept that First Contact takes place in Enterprise's past then why not have an episode where some humans encounter the remains of the sphere?

My fear is that the Ent crew themselves will be involved in the story.

This is an opportunity to do something different with the setting. Using the borg is actually quite clever as it wraps up the question about "what happened to the wrackage". But using the crew when it could be just as gripping (more so through uncertain life expectancy) with a different group of researchers is lazy.

So, my opinion... Wrap up the borg angle, but do it with style and not just the crew's adventure of the week.

Mark

Instead of bringing borg, B&B should bring what everybody wants... 24th century crew.

Plus, the NX01 is so wimpy... I don't see the technology improving.they should upgrade at least something per season or something. trekkies prolly want to see how NX01 leads federation's future and they get stuck with temporal cold war.. and no matter how many times I watch it I don't even understand who's really behind. always ends with secret and it's not funny :(

And I would like to see more familiar faces... Betazed should be in the reach of NX01 and so are few others... they should bring more familiar faces in Enterprise.

I don't mind seeing borg on Ent, but then, It's sort of like, borg is like star trek's last resort ? they bring borg so quickly and what else do they have to offer?

mm mm mmmm mmmmmm

I really don't have a problem with it, as long they don't have the tech of the 22nd century being able to defeat the Borg. The borg would more than likely be ready for any type of resistance they can offer. If it's done as a "closed" episode where most of the action takes place without the Enterprise crew and has the Borg salvaging their ship and returning to Borg space leaving the 22nd century with "hey... who do you think that was".

Re: POLL: How Do You Feel About the Borg on Enterp

NO BORG!!! I don't care if it is the best episode ever. They ruined the Borg, and I don't ever want to see them again. Even if it makes dramatic sense, even if whatever. FC and VOY ruined the best enemy Trek ever had, and trotting them out again now is beyond pointless.

Re: POLL: How Do You Feel About the Borg on Enterp

OK, this is the first I've heard of this!!!! Are you serious? You guys are talking like it's ACTUALLY GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!!!Borg on ENT?
Wow- the room is spinning.
I'm Okay.
But, wouldn't the Borg totally kick our ass? All we have is hull plating!!!!!
The only thing you don't have to worry about is explaining why the borg are in the 22nd century. Time travel. Tah-dah! Maybe this could be the ep that convinces T'pol that it exsists. And I can't wait to see the look on her face when she finally realizes time travel is real!!! Wait- not real, just a show....I keep forgetting!

I chose "Wait and see", but...

...the biggest plot issue I see is that it seems implausible that Picard would not have assigned a team to recover all the Borg debris they could find after they destroyed the sphere in FC.

Could they have found *all* of the debris down to the last tiny scrap? Probably not.

But pieces as large as that described in the story synopsis, WITH BORG BODIES!? I think not. Picard should have been court martialed for not observing the Temporal Prime Directive and doing his best at removing traces of evidence from the future.

The Enterprise E has really, really good late 24th century sensors. It should have been trivial to pick out most Borg ship pieces larger than a grain of sand, and even more trivial to retrieve pieces critical to preserving the time line like Borg warp coils, Borg drone remains, Borg shield components, etc. Bits of structural components burned up in the atmosphere and landing in the Arctic Circle probably would have never been found, and even if they had, probably been relegated to a Mars bacteria kind of mystery.

Shame on the writers for assuming Picard and crew were so derelict in their Temporal duties. Picard assigned a team to help Cochrane, so he should have had a full time team on the Borg debris retrieval, like those recovering Columbia debris now.

"Well, Picard et al was too preoccupied with eliminating the Borg from the Ent-E and helping Cochrane" you say?

Hogwash. At the end of FC, when the crises' were over, the Ent E had all they time they wanted to take to retrieve Borg debris, before shooting back to their century.

Overall, Ent is not at fault, it is the writers abusing FC that is at fault. And I am not a FC hater, either- I view it as legitimate canon.

It's prolly gonna end up with like:

"ohh who are they, we know nothing about them, OMG we found something very interesting! T'pol! don't stop me! someone is attacking us! borg remain is destroyed! Danniel what are you doing here!! We couldn't figure out anything this time as well! so many secrets!"

duh... :(

Dear god...I hope the writers have more creative talent than to do that to the fans.

And the Enterprise shot the Borg ship down over the United States! Montana! Nowhere near the Arctic Circle!

Like most everyone else I'll reserve final judgment for the episode when it actually airs, but so far...and based on B&B's recent,sorry-ass track record with the Borg...my hopes haven't been elevated very high. I could end up being dead wrong, but the odds aren't stacked very well against it.

Next thing you know Chancellor Martok,V'Ger and Tom Paris will be making time-traveling guest shots. Sad... :(

When I first heard the news my jaw dropped and my eyes widened... I really did think it was a joke. But now that I've given it some thought I really wouldn't mind seeing them ONCE, as long as it doesn't destroy canon horribly.

It's an OK idea, if its handled correctly.

They can do both good and bad with the borg. :)
