Plot hole city: Part 3!

Tee hee, but the irony of some people complaining about others nitpicking over scenes in the movie by nitpicking about the definition of a plot hole is not lost upon me. :p If you aren't interested, why keep posting in the thread?

Pauln6, was the above meant for me? Or was it just a mis-copy/paste?
I kinda think Paul was intending to quote and respond to Dukhat's post, but I could be mistaken about that.

Why was the Narada travelling that slowly again? Did I miss that part of the plot? Or was it a plot hole?

Just a thought, since the timeline got altered maybe Starfleet has upgraded their ship's engines so that they can achieve speeds unheard of in the Prime universe. Maybe the Narada's top speed is warp 8 but when scaled to the NuTrek warp scale its maximum speed is warp 2. Not really too important since warp scales are not stated in this movie but it's just my thought.

All we know from the movie is that the Narada is presumably traveling at its fastest speed to Earth. We have no idea what its maximum speed is or how fast it is currently traveling. Enterprise increases its speed to warp 4 to catch up. This speed boost is enough to arrive not long after the Narada does.

Real hard to tell, isn't it?

What's with the Romulan ship only having impulse but being able to cover interstellar distances in "Balance Of Terror?"

That doesn't make any sense; it's completely inconsistent with other Star Trek.

Plot hole city.

At #83 - Sorry, I assumed that everybody read the preceding few posts before replying! Multi-quote never seems to work well for me and I assumed it would be clear that I was replying to the slightly earlier post. I apologise for any confusion!

The Narada travels from Klingon space to Vulcan in a day, pausing for an unknown period of time to pick up Spock. It's further from Vulcan to Rura Penthe than it is from Eath to Vulcan. Again the issue is about relative speeds.

The fact that Enterprise arrives just in time is a plot contrivance. The fact that Nero travelled slow enough for them to do so at only warp 4 is a plot hole.

You know, the phrase "plot hole city" could easily become a meme around here.

In "Darmok" the phaser blast comes from the torpedo tube. Plot hole city.

The distances between planets are never stated in this film. Besides, even in Prime Trek, aren't Earth, Vulcan, Q'onos, and Romulus basically all right next to each other?

If the writers had simply given Nero a line like "Set course for Earth, warp (insert number here)", this discussion would be far easier. But alas, all we have to go on is what's in the movie, where the Narada is traveling at some unspecified speed and warp 4 is enough to catch up.

Quonos was stated in Enterprise as being 4 days away from Earth at warp 4.5 at TNG speeds(?) - except that's about as apocryphal as Kirk travelling to the centure of the Universe in V or the edge of the universe in WNMHGB. :vulcan:

Still you have made my point. Narada travels at an an unspecidied speed for an unspecified reason i.e. there's a hole in the plot aka a plot hole. :p

Why would the Narada be in a hurry? Nero just wiped out a bunch of ships at Vulcan.

Tee hee - and 47 Klingon ships the day before! I really enjoyed this movie but I don't excuse some of the dumb stuff in it. I much prefer space battles when the parties are more evenly matched.

If he posts, I must post back. That is the way of things.

If the Enterprise is able to catch up to the Narada at warp 4, then the Narada must have been traveling at a speed that is less than warp 4. Or is that an "It is, therefore it was" argument? :p :p :p

We also don't know how long it took for the ceti eels to take control of Pike and therefore how long it took for Nero to uncover the defense access codes. Once obtained, we don't know how long it took to disable the entire defense network. We also don't know how long it took for Nero to take down any physical threats surrounding Earth.

Exactly. Quite a big plot hole, but one we can fill with our bestest speculation.

We also don't know if Spock or Keenser or any escaping Vulcans wouldn't have warned Earth that Pike was captured and/or that Nero was on his way and if not, why not!

How come Anakin was able to get through the Trade Federation's shields when the Trade Federation just claimed that nothing could get through them?

The hangar shield was temporarily down when he went through. Two TF fighters go out at the same time he goes in.

"IT WAZ FOUR! SHiPz! Guh! It's like YOU NEVER SEENED teh movie! PLOTHOLE in POST!!!!!!!!"

or the more applicable:

"*sigh*"
