Plot details for The Hungry Earth (SPOILERS!!!)

I will make a judgement on The Runaway Bridge when I have watched it, but yeah this could be problematic.

I guess it depends where they drill.... the summary says drilling below the crust, NOT to the core. It's doesn't contradict the spider ship at the centre of the earth, and it doesn't contradict Inferno. I don't get you?

The Runaway Bride had a giant shaft lasered all the way down into the Earth's core by Torchwood, so this idea in The Hungry Earth that this operation is the deepest they've ever gone is totally retarded.

Was the Torchwood operation a secret one? Maybe after the events of The Runaway Bride the government hushed it up, making the drilling in The Hungry Earth the deepest "official" drilling as far as the general public is concerned?

Why would the Torchwood shaft have been hushed up? Everyone in London saw the Racnoss ship, and the subsequent events. What would be the point? And even if it was, that still leaves us with the problem of why nobody seems to remember the Inferno Project.

So Torchwood doesnt get the blame? I'd imagine most secret organisations would be quite eager to cover up anything linking them to a giant death ship that started vaporising people.

Perhaps the people doing the show are just more knowledgeable than you are.

Inferno
  • This episode marks the first story in Doctor Who to be set in a parallel universe.
  • In the parallel world, the nametag on Director Stahlman's uniform reads "Stahlmann", despite the credits to Episode 5 spelling his name as "Stahlman", like his non-fascist counterpart. It is unclear whether the nametag is in error or the credits are in error.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Yes, portions of that story were set in an AU, but the rest took place in the regular continuity.

While I was too tired to cut-and-paste everything, the most telling bit is at the end of the plot synopsis. You know, where they say the project is abandoned. Which occurs before they actually breach the crust. The penetration only occurs in the alternate universe.

Meaning they didn't actually breach it.

Meaning Chaundry's drilling may/will exceed it.

Meaning it will be the deepest one.

But did everyone know that the Racnoss ship came out of the Torchwood shaft? If not, then maybe they'd want to hide their involvement in the event? My rememberance of the details of The Runaway Bride is a bit fuzzy...

If I remember right, Stahlman's drilling stopped about a minute before it would've hit penetration zero. So Chaundry's project would only be the deepest by a small margin.

Interesting and the Tardis Wiki also posted the follow up episode as "Cold Blood" so now we know all by the final three episodes? Silurans!

Amy doesn't remember the Cybermen vs Dalek war in "Army of Ghosts". Which means the Torchwood base in London was never destroyed and H.C. Clements is still a Torchwood front in Amy's reality.

It is very possible that in Amy's reality, the events of "Runaway Bride" never occurred. The Racnoss queen never attempted to revive her children, and never attacked London on Christmas day.

I've lost count of how many times the planet's been destroyed, or the Titanic was hit, or how Atlantis keeps being referred both as a legend and as an actual location.

Earth's been busy and we're worried about a drill.

As I recall, the Racnoss ship that attacked London came from space. They were trying to reach a second ship at the core of the Earth.

If I remember right, Stahlman's drilling stopped about a minute before it would've hit penetration zero. So Chaundry's project would only be the deepest by a small margin.

Again, if my memory is correct, Stahlman was trying to reach buried reserves of gas. These were not necessarily at the centre of the Earth, though they were deeper than anyone else had tunnelled at that stage. So there could still be a very long way to go.
