Oh I'm sure Lucas just dismisses us all as just a bunch of nitpickers who are blinded by childhood nostalgia and can't view the prequels objectively, and that the huge theatrical grosses speak for themselves.

While I agree the Prequels are dreck, it's a fair argument for him to make.

The Prequels and the merchandising did very well.

So, yeah, in a way, the grosses do speak very clearly.

Agreed. All those grosses speak to is the general public's immense love for the original movies, and our desire to try to re-experience some of that original magic on the big screen (even if only fleetingly).

The fact the merchandise increasingly focused on OT characters over PT ones shows that the Lucasfilm marketers were just as aware of this as everyone else.

Sure. It's totally riding on the OT's success. I don't think the PT would have existed without the OT. (I mean, yeah, the prequels OBVIOUSLY wouldn't exist... but if the trilogy had started with episode 1 I don't think it would have continued.)

While it rides the coat tails and good will, it STILL continues, so in some way it's connecting with someone. Lots of someones.

I dunno, blowing up Alderaan probably killed a few women and children. But I guess we can blame Tarkin for that rather than vader.

Well, we didn't see any worried-looking children on Alderaan pointing up at the Death Star...

See, if any scene needed to be added to the OT, it's that. That would be great.

Anyway, the outre violence of the PT was fine and fitting, it just needed to be taken a bit more seriously by the characters when it started, rather than merely when it began to affect white people. Anakin's violent streak isn't just not the worst problem of the film, it's actually one of its precious few strengths. (Diagram that sentence.)

Despite Mr. Plinkett's droning voice, penchant for profanity, tangents, and filler (the story embedded within the review), the review was still more enjoyable than the original film, same as with his reviews for Episodes I and II.

As a minor point about the review itself--and maybe I missed it if someone pointed it out--but did anyone else notice how ancillary the serial killer stuff was this time? That is, purposely de-embedded from the review, to the point where you could skip it if you wanted to?

You know, the PT should've featured Alderaan being the focus, instead of introducing Corsucant. It would be a better way to link the trilogies than shoehorning C3PO, R2D2, and Chewbacca in, and at least make us care about the setting a wee bit more.

I think the idea and visuals of Coruscant are interesting. I didn't think "whatever" when Alderaan was blown up. Leia's reaction alone assured that (despite the unseemly quickness with which she appeared to get over it).
