Plinkett gets REVENGE

I'm curios, will Plinkett do the Original Trilogy? That would be awesome, I can almost hear him yell "You stupid bitch, the Empire just destroyed your home world, killed everyone you know an love and all you do is look away for two seconds, then pretend that NOTHING HAPPENED? WHAT IS FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?"

Also - "You retarded Imperial fucks! You spend gazillions of Imperial credits (or whatever it is you use) to build the fucking DEATH STAR, the ULTIMATE WEAPON IN THE GALAXY, yet any retard with a fighter jet can blow the shit out of it just by shooting at it with blasters? Didn't you people hear of DEFLECTOR SHIELDS and shit? Are you really THAT fucking retarded? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?

The difference is that those movies had so many OTHER redeeming qualities-- dynamic and engaging characters, a clear and focused storyline, fun and witty character banter, etc-- that their problems just don't stand out nearly as much.

Hell, if the prequels even got ONE of those elements right, I would have been a lot more forgiving. I probably could have lived with the shitty plot and horrible Anakin storyline if we at least got the same kind of fun and memorable dialogue as we got in the OT. That alone would have made a world of difference.

I don't think anyone needs to point out these differences. The original movies are masterpieces (especially Empire), and the prequels are... Well, controversial phenomena of disputable quality.

Also, reviews like Plinkett's don't really work as a means of determining quality. He does make some substantive points, but a lot of it is just bitching and moaning that is entertaining if you already despise the PT.

You are right, he could do something similar for the OT, but since those movies don't actually suck, and people do not despise them, that would be a poor choice given his style of review. It's a bit like sfdebris, which spends most of its time on VOY and ENT as I recall.

And now, five and a half years later, here we are, still whining, and bitching, and bitching, and bitching, and cursing the evil George Lucas, and bitching some more... And there is no end in sight.

Only because Berman & Braga aren't here to kick around anymore. I'm gettin' twitchy!

As for Leia being blase about her homeworld getting blowed up, her brother didn't seem terribly upset for more than two minutes at seeing the barbecued remains of the people who raised him from infancy. Shouldn't he have tried to murder the first Stormtrooper he saw on Mos Eisly? Funny how Anakin didn't have that chilly, cold-blooded aspect he should have had, but his kids seem to have gotten it somehow. :D

Nah, he only reviews bad movies ;)
Really?

D'OH!!

It seems like the review was really drawn out. For as much as he talks about filler in the movies, most of his review seemed like filler. I liked it more when they were shorter and to the point. A lot of stuff in this one seemed forced.

And I've defended the psycho killer aspect before. I think it fits perfectly with someone who overanalyzes a movie to death and nitpicks that much. But seriously, cat rape? That part was pretty appalling.
that's what made it funny as hell... you don't expect it!

Would you people stop giving my boyfriend excuses for posting here all day long?

Every night I go through this:

And no, this is not offtopic. Really isn't. *puppy eyes*

Are they now? Okay, no point in denying it. But still, a phenomena they remain.

Wait, who's Plinkett? I really need to read this thread thoroughly.

Here's an idea. Forget the idea of Anakin "falling." Give Anakin the role played by Palps - the main character surely deserves to have the most pro-active role. Just have Anakin be evil and power hungry from the word go. Have him manipulate the Senate, the Jedi, the clones, the Hutts, pretty much everyone who crosses paths with him, in a unending quest for more power. Maybe he's the one who corrupts Palps, and not the other way around.

 So much for the OT. The wheels on the bus go round and round...

Because none of the motivations make sense, we're left with the appearance of Anakin being a dolt - he falls for no observable reason.

I guess it's hard to observe when you're studiously ignoring it.

The reason should be something about the Dark Side - what it does to your mind, or your ethics, or your destiny, or something.

Something from Naboo, perhaps?

That's okay as some kind of story, but it's not a Star Wars story.

According to an imaginary rule of your own invention. Protagonists always being in charge or having perfect childhoods are just the equivalent of fast food. Don't fault the character with an imperfect childhood for failing to be the latest Happy Meal.

If you lose the metaphysical dimension, then Star Wars is just another space opera story.

Maybe a metaphysical dimension and protagonists with imperfect childhoods aren't mutually exclusive.

I am going away for the weekend and will be bringing my iPad. I want to somehow be able to watch this review again. How do I make it viewable on the iPad, and, even better, how can I download a viewable version? Thx

Also it seems Plinkett learns from is fans and detractors the way Lucas doesn't in that he toned down the rapist thing to almost nothing.

Despite Mr. Plinkett's droning voice, penchant for profanity, tangents, and filler (the story embedded within the review), the review was still more enjoyable than the original film, same as with his reviews for Episodes I and II. I remember seeing the films and not feeling satisfied, but not knowing exactly why (aside from one Gungan); now I know. He's really done everyone a service. I would love to see Mr. Lucas' reaction to these.

I dawns on me on just how boring a material-less the PT was. Many people here are likely familiar with the "Darths and Droids" webcomic that's premise is that the PT is the actions of a group of tabletop RPG gamers. (In the "universe" of the comic Star Wars never existed) the comic uses the failures in the prequel to kind of poke-fun at some of the logical inconsistencies and mistakes in the movies. The comics centered around the first two movies were great but ROTS so damn boring that the comic just isn't snapping like it used to. I mean if he goes on to do the OT I'm sure there's plenty of material it can use there too but ROTS there's just little to work with.

George Lucas is a self made man and a filmmaker who's managed to become very successful in his own terms, so I guess he has a very thick skin when it comes to criticism. It may be part of the problem, actually.

Oh I'm sure Lucas just dismisses us all as just a bunch of nitpickers who are blinded by childhood nostalgia and can't view the prequels objectively, and that the huge theatrical grosses speak for themselves.
