Please God, No! (Transformers 2 Rumor) (SPOILER!)

So because he was incorrectly called Devastator, even though it was supposed to be Brawl and even the toyline calls him Brawl, it's perfectly clear that single tank robot is the six Construction combo Devastator?

Well Devastator is going to be in the next movie and he won't be the tank from the first movie. Would you rather have them call it Omega Supreme or Prowl instead?

FYI, Brawl is one of the Combaticons.

Mostly, it was the utter brainlessness and lack of character development/plot cohesion that got me. It all could have been done so much better.

Exactly and the puppet reason of, well it's a toy commercial, what do you expect? Uh, Transformers were a LOT deeper than that. They actually had personalities and had motives. They had a lot of character development.

Well - the comics had a lot of character development, but the cartoon really didn't. The characters were very well formed, admittedly, and you immediately get a handle on what makes them tick, but they don't develop at all, except a bit in the movie and season 3 - but most of that development is old toys dying in order to be replaced by new ones.

Of course the movie could have been a lot better, a hell of a lot better, for fans and probably for the general public, but it was all right - it was very enjoyable to see these characters (or versions of such) in a real-world environment. What character of the robots you did see is pretty much intact - Prime is still noble and wise, Bumblebee is eager to please, Ratchet is the caring medic, Ironhide the gung-ho bodyguard and Jazz is... err...black. On the Decepticon side, Megatron is suitably evil (even if I did hate his body design and wished he'd said "Decepticons - retreat!" at some point) but that is essentially it. The lack of character for the Decepticons is one of my biggest problems with the movie but hopefully that'll be fixed this time - more money presumably meaning more time with the robots - and there's no point in putting off their reveal this time.

Orci's said more robot-time and Decepticon-only dialogue scenes...

personally, i'm hankering for

"Constructicons, merge for the kill!"

from Megatron...

So he should be saying that this Transformers is NOT G1 or even INFLUENCED by G1 and simply a combination of all Transformers media.
Depends on your definition of "influenced". Considering the main cast were mostly based on G1 characters as their base, and that many elements came from G1 (Prime being a truck, Bumblebee's color scheme, Ironhide's ornery personality, the presence of the Witwicky family etc.) I think saying "G1 influenced" is fair.

"PREPARE FOR DEVASTATION!!!"

Actually, it's "PREPARE FOR EXTERMINATION!"

"Who disrupts my coronation?" shouted Starscream

"Coronation, Starscream?" replied Galvatron, as he ejects from the cockpit of Cyclonus.

Cyclonus and the sweeps transform.

"This is bad comedy," Galvatron added.

"Megatron, is that you?" Starscream wondered.

"Here's a hint!" replies Galvatron, who then transforms and vaporizes Starscream.

"Will anyone else attempt to fill his shoes?" said Galvatron.

"Uh, what he say his name was?" asked Rumble.

"Galvatron!" the Decepticons chant. "Galvatron!"

Ah, I LOVE that movie. I've watched it over 10 times. Much better than the live action one...

What?

Eh, it (Transformers: The Movie) started off good and then went to shit city, especially in the animation.

No, I wouldn't. There are somethings that are iconic in comic books and continuities. I can understand why Bumblebee wasn't a VW but they still should have had him as a small car.

Would you like it if they changed Superman's origin? Or costume around? Or how about Batman's origin? Let's say his parents weren't killed by a thief? Or let's say Wolverine wasn't a Canadian...How would you deal with those changes?
I for one wouldn't care too much because I understand the industry is a business and there are certain changes that must be made in films due to budget. It also has to be a story the mass public can relate too in a short period of time. Even books made into movies get altered for this reason.

When you understand how a studio & the film making business works, you might come to understand how all this complaining is silly.

No movie is just made for it's fan audience, they're made for the mass pubilc all over the world to relate too.

While the movies are made for mass public, they still try to please the 'fans' by keeping true to the roots.

I think that what they did to Transformers was bad because well it's robots fighting each other! How the hell can you move away from that?
Robots fighting each other is all Transformers is basically about. The story inbetween is just giving you a reason why they do.

Exactly. I'm sick and tired of the whiny fan-boys who only want 2+ hours of giant robots fighting. It needs some depth and character, which we got.

That's kind of arrogant. We all of us understand that a movie has to make money, and that the audience have to be able to understand it, and, in fact, that changes to an original mythos usually have to be made to facilitate this. That doesn't change the fact that that sometimes things get changed because a film-maker wants to rewrite the story he has been given, even when its unnecessary.
Unnecassary too you because the regular public & fans aren't aware of how the budget for the film is allocated, the time the film maker is is allowed on the project before he/she scheduled to start their next film. Time restrictions each actor has before their next film. Availability of the Special effects studio. etc. A film may be given a so many million dollar budget but it doesn't tell you were that money was distributed, how is was distributed nor the asking price of the other companies & crews. For example: Does anybody here know how much the standard rate is to get ILM to do special EFX for a film? How much to the daily labors get? How much alone just for the catering?

There are many factors involved to co-ordinate in the process of making a film, many deal with time and budget restrictions. So what may be seen as unnecessary to the fans, all could have very valid reasons on the set. Peoples personal lives & business deals w/ actors, directors & producters don't stop just because a film is in production.

So no, I don't believe it is arrogant to learn the business to have a better education on how the industry works and why certain things happen to cause a film or script to change. It helps bring reason and education to things that before would seem unnecessary but might not.

TEN?! is that all? jeez, i musta watched it close to a hundred times. when i was a kid I'd watched it at least 3 times a year...

"Me Grimlock, kick butt!"

"Soundwave superior, Constructicons inferior."

"First we crack the shell, then we crack the nuts inside!"

"The Insecticons are in our way!"
"Wrong, they're our way in!"

"Ya turbo-revvin' young punk! I'll straighten ya out yet!"

The thing is, you can say that on about any comic book movie. Batman fights deranged criminals. The story in between is just giving you the reason why he is.

I find it hilarious that people bash the hell out of Batman and Robin and yet love Transformers in the same breath. To me Transformers the Movie is the same thing that Batman and Robin is to the Batman franchise.

The thing is, is personally I wanted a cameo by Optimus Prime and to wait for him in the second movie. There is so much more depth and character to the story than what Bay did and for that I am very disappointed. Were the graphics great? Yes but he didn't get what the Transformers are.

I understand what exodus is saying but you can also work around that. There are certain things the comic book did that would work extremely well in the movie.

The story in between, as exodus is saying, is varied but also very rich in detail.

True, but it does seem like a weird idea to me. If you're going to draw most of your influences from G1, which I think the film did effectively, why add in something from the Armada continuity that doesn't suit the G1 character?
Well, the first movie was clearly G1 influenced but not all G1. The fact a couple characters were original (Blackout and Barricade) and some more mystic concepts were introduced such as the Allspark show that it isn't afraid to borrow from TF's huge mythology. I mean, TF has over 20 years of history, why confine its influence to just a few years?

So we should see Beast Wars guys running around along with Beast Machines? :D
