ETA: Never mind, wamdue just one-upped you. :p
im not going to lie about what I watch, that said I would like to forget I watched Grey's Anatomy (again just S1)

actually if anyone cares, I have a defence as to why I saw D&G, if anyone cares to hear it.

Well, I don't watch CSI, SVU, L&O, et.al. (overdosed on cop procedural shows years ago), but I did watch Dharma and Greg early on (mostly for Jenna Elfman's rack). So that's where I remembered the name from.

Well, you put it that way, I take it back.

Haven't seen him in nearly a decade, but Pike SHOULD be about 10 years older than he was in The Cage at the time he turns The E over to Kirk, right? :)

Pretty sure you're right about this.

Sorry, just havin' a little fun. :) I'm a TV elitist AND a Star Trek geek.

your not wrong, and I can be a TV elitist myself, the short version of why I watched D&G, I was younger then, and I thought she was hot/funny.

It's been said here before but when Ray Liotta was younger he would have been a good Pike. He looked a lot like Jeffrey Hunter. Now he just looks like an old alcoholic.

To throw in another Stargate name, Ben Browder could be really interesting. However, I fear he may be a little too young to play Pike.

Interesting, though.

And he's also a poor actor and very annoying
Your opinion.

He was great as John Chrichton. I haven't seen Stargate, tho.

Tom Cruise as Pike? :wtf:

One *beep* for 'yes'

Two *beeps* for 'the evil Lord Xenu will launch an alien armada from ancient Earth's volcanoes to conquer the universe!'

Tom Cruise - yea, he's a science fictiontologist, isn't he ? Pike should be and unknown. Kirk has to overshadow him. I don't want to like Pike better than Kirk. Pike gave Kirk the ship before the accident 'cause Kirk didn't know the details of it 'till 'the managerie', right ?

Tom Cruise stomps kitten heads for self-affirmation. It's an accepted Scientological practice.

I think Tom Cruise would be perfect in the role of Cpt Pike. Cruise has an incredible screen presence that can’t be denied. Remember it was his concern for Pike’s well being that compelled Spock to violate numerous SF regs to transport Pike to the forbidden planet of Taus 4 (sp) …so imo you need someone real special to play Pike.

Sure TC has a lot of off screen baggage but we’ll have to put that aside because in Hollywood today TC is the horse that pulls the wagon and at this moment in time the movie needs someone like that to jumpstart the franchise…and that would be a good thing for all of us.

I'm certain that if Cruise was up for being Pike then they would jump at the chance, they would be mad not to. He would help with the International/Overseas gross immensely.

I wouldn't mind seeing him as Pike anyway.

Perhaps he is just giving Kirk the keys to the Enterprise for 5 mins and then that's all we see of him?

I don't get the hatred for Tom Cruise. He is an entertaining actor that makes entertaining movies. Plus, like it or not, he's popular, which could get potential movie goers to come see the movie. If they casted Tom Cruise in a role in a Trek movie, that would probably be a good thing. People in other threads are bitching that there are no "marketable" names currently in the movie. Tom Cruise is a marketable name.

Besides, if Cruise is cast as Pike, it wouldn't be as if he's the lead and be in every scene. It would probably be a five minute cameo at best (<--- guesstimate).

Anyone remember the last time Cruise did a "cameo" for anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Ain't happening. Not for Abrams, not for ANYONE. He's the before-the-title star, or he don't play, no way. :)

as I understand it the problem isnt Cruise the actor, its with Cruise the sciencetogist, that said I know precious little about that, so I dont comment on it alot

Just because he didn't do it before, doesn't mean he won't do it in the future. Kinda like Sean Connery in Robin Hood.

Besides, there are a few other things to consider:

--Cruise has a positive relationship with the director already.
--He's stepping into a role originally played by the great Jeffery Hunter. That can be enticing for an actor.
--The fun factor that can be involved with a production.
--Also, according to IMDB, Cruise has like 3 films currently in production, set for '08 or '09. Doing just a few days worth of filming to be in a project like this might be welcoming to Cruise.

Again, this works with the assumption that Cruise would even want to do it.

----

In a related question...what about Tom Hanks as Pike? Hanks is a known Star Trek fan and he doesn't seem to have the ego that people assert with Cruise and Crowe. Thoughts?
