Pike confirmed for Abrams' "Star Trek"

I can see Beau Bridges as Kirk's father; and actually Joe Flannigan (sans the messy hair) might be a pretty good Pike.
Yeah, I've been watching a lot of Stargate lately.

Thans for the photos...based on those, possibly (and another Heroes connection!).

Speaking of Heroes, what role should Greg Grunberg play? Hmmm...i guess Harry Mudd might not be appropriate for this movie, huh?

As for Joe Flanigan....i don't think so. Unless he can pull off a very different image than Sheppard -- i can't see it. i definitely would love to see him in a higher profile role (i.e. something for the general public) so people can get to know him as an actor. Maybe a Raiders of the Lost Ark remqake? :)

To throw in another Stargate name, Ben Browder could be really interesting. However, I fear he may be a little too young to play Pike.

Interesting, though.

And he's also a poor actor and very annoying

I kind of like how Star Trek & Heroes are interconnected, gives Heroes a history it would have otherwise.

Hmmm, I never thought of Adrian Pasdar, works for me. Saw him on Heroes of course and Judging Amy, not a bad actor.

Tom Hanks as Pike, maybe?

He's a huge Trek fan, in fact he wanted to play Zefram Cochrane in ST:FC but he had to drop out because of That Thing You Do!.

Kirk as Pike's XO perhaps?

I can almost see someone replacing Shatner as Kirk-- really because I think Kirk is one of those character's that's outgrown the actor that plays him, if that makes sense. But the flip side of that, I can't really see anyone else as Pike, Jeffery Hunter and Pike are one in the same in my mind

Dennis Quaid or Tom Hanks as Pike ... those are VERY interesting ideas. Unconventional, but yet, it just might work!

I'm kinda out on the whole "has to look JUST LIKE HIM!" train of thought.

Cruise would be okay, but he wouldn't disappear into the part; you'd always be seeing Tom Cruise on STAR TREK, not Captain Pike, IMO.

If it's just a cameo, why not a huge star for a day's work? Hell, ya got 160 mill. :)

More ideas, with the casting door wide open:
Hugh Jackman
Chris Noth (Law and Order guy)
Clive Owen
Kiefer Sutherland (hell, if Daniel Craig's been mentioned ...)
Clooney
William Peterson
Gary Cole (Hell, he could be in every movie ever made AFAIC)
Will Smith (JK, but you never know in Hollywood)
Denzel
Bruce Willis
Kurt Russell

I'll stop there. Maybe veering into too much character revisionism, but I don't think so, honestly.

*******

ETA: Corinthian is in on Clooney.

They should go with a really big name for Pike. I think they wanted Crow for the villain role but had to settle for Bana, who has less box office draw. So they should go all out on the Pike role and get an A+ lister.

Pike must be played by Marlon Brando.

Only if he played like he did the pool shark in The Color of Money. :)

Aaaooo...werewolves of London. Aaaooo!

I thought Tom Cruise had been shown the door by Paramount?
not fis acting but his production company. They'd be fools not to sign him to act in one of their movies.

I think we'll see Pike when he turns over command of the Enterprise to Kirk.

Maybe Shatner could play kirk's dad. :D

i postd the same thought in the TrekToday News message thread...i mean, why not? He wouldn't be that old for the role, right?

Though i think he ought to have some different features (i.e. facial hair, but more "natural" ont he top of his head)...that way fans who really wanted to see him in can, but others (i.e. more casual fans) might not notice.

And how about Ray Liotta as Pike?

I have said this several times. He looks ALOT like Jeff Hunter. I would love him to do it.

best wishes,
wws

Just another thought, but if Abrams goes for someone he's already worked with then maybe he'll bring in Matthew Fox for the role. Thinking about it I think he could be good in the role, I think he has the right sort of acting style and could probably be made to look enough like Jeffrey Hunter as well.

Most of the suggestions so far are too young.
People tend to think of Pike as he appeared in "The Cage/The Menagerie", but it's likely that Pikes scene will be the handing of the Enterprise to Kirk, which took place more then 10 years later.
Pike should be over 45 at the time.

Actually, I was thinking of him earlier, especially given the Abrams connection. Perhaps a bit too young (would've worked better if the movie was set during The Cage era), but I could still see him in the role.
