Pike confirmed for Abrams' "Star Trek"

JacksonArcher

Vice Admiral

With Simon Pegg and John Cho confirmed to portray Scotty and Sulu, respectively, ComingSoon reports that the roles yet to be cast (besides Kirk) are Christopher Pike ("the first captain of the Enterprise", according to the article) and Kirk's parents.

So does that mean Kirk is obviously not the captain of the Enterprise in the film? I have a feeling he will assume captainship towards the end of the film. I also have a slight feeling that Abrams may try and woo Tom Cruise for Pike, as some rumors have suggested.

With the entire TOS bridge crew being cast I think it's fairly certain we'll see Kirk in command of the Enterprise at some point, if not throughout the bulk of the film. Perhaps as some have speculated the film will visit pre-TOS time periods as well... in fact the presence of Pike and Kirk's parents pretty much guarantees it. I just hope the film is fairly linear outside of the much speculated about time travel element of the plot. I don't care for Abrams' flashbacky filmmaking style.

And bugger freakin' Tom Cruise. Who needs 'im? He'd just clutter up the movie with assholosity as far as I'm concerned.

LOL Remember when there were rumors of Russell Crowe playing the villain??

not fis acting but his production company. They'd be fools not to sign him to act in one of their movies.

I think we'll see Pike when he turns over command of the Enterprise to Kirk.

Maybe Shatner could play kirk's dad. :D

i postd the same thought in the TrekToday News message thread...i mean, why not? He wouldn't be that old for the role, right?

Though i think he ought to have some different features (i.e. facial hair, but more "natural" ont he top of his head)...that way fans who really wanted to see him in can, but others (i.e. more casual fans) might not notice.

And how about Ray Liotta as Pike?

Maybe this could be the first step to mending their relationship. If anything Cruise in a Paramount film would create a lot of nice buzz for Star Trek XI!

But instead of physical damage, the radiation instead causes mental damage...? :guffaw:

After the delta radiation, you mean?

No, really I think he'd be a good pick. Much prefer him to that retard Tom Cruise.

Cruise would be the far-and-away best choice for Pike if they could get him. I very much doubt that they can or will.

Liotta has nothing to recommend him for the part other than a passing facial resemblance to Jeffrey Hunter. So what?

^ I do hope that was in jest!

Not sure who I see as Pike. I used to always say Liotta, but the resemblance to Hunter has lessened and he's a different sort of personality. They need someone sort of all-American and square-jawed, but slightly haunted (as Pike always seemed to me). Dennis Quaid?

He would be too old. If Kirk's about 25, then his father ought to be 45-55 ish. Shatner as Kirk's grandad, maybe a silent cameo watching with pride at the ceremony as his grandson gets command of this great ship, then yep to that.

Ray Liotta used to look like Hunter. Have you seen Ray lately? He doesn't even look like Ray anymore.

If 'assholosity' is not the funniest friggin' word ever and especially when you put it with that weirder-than Tom Cruise, I don't know what is.
BTW- How old would you say Pike is supposed to be? Like 40-45? I would think the guy from the Closer, Fritz, would be a good choice. Tall, looks like Pike....but not Tom Cruise! Who for Chapel? Julia Roberts? (I hate her like I hat Tom Cruise)
