Went to Fruita, CO to work a race this weekend and came back with a few pics....

Here we have the canyon. You can sort of see some of the trails that the racers had to go through

Picture of the finish line base camp during the 25/50 mile race Saturday.

I was really disappointed this year... I found some amazing views, trails and canyons the last time I was down there, but I lacked a camera. This year, I was prepared, but ended up being so dehydrated by sunday that I was in no condition to run to those locations after the races. Maybe next year I can get some good shots!

I've seen them form under frozen things in that past. It's also possible that if you had a power outage at some point and opened the freezer door you trapped a bit on "unfrozen" air which caused condensation to build up and then "drip freeze" once power returned and cooling commenced.

As the surface of a body of water freezes, the top layer of ice traps the remaining water beneath it -- since water expands when it freezes, it is driven upward through a hole in the ice layer, gradually forming a spike of ice.
