Picture from "The Lodger" **SPOILERS**

To be fair, and believe me I have a ton more respect for Patrick Stewart than Corden, it does sound like Sir Pat kinda started it.

SFX reckon Corden is surprisingly likeable in The Lodger...we shall see.

Yeh Stewart was being a little stuffy there and started it though am sure the press probably overhyped the story. Don't try to verbal bash a comedian, never works :p

Yeh Stewart clearly looks like he's had too much top drink and I don't care how much of a TNG fan I might be, Sir Patrick was a total ass in that video. Only a total anal basement dwelling Trek fan could defend Stewart's action there, seriously I've never seen him be so rude.

To me, being an american, Lodger is a term we never hear much of in the US. We use the term roommate instead, which is kinda wierd since we don't use the word 'Mate' to discribe a friend (only a lover, spouse etc..) as the British do.

^ I guess Lodger makes more sense if your sharing a total house IMO otherwise a small apartment/flat I would use the term room mate.

The impression I've gotten is that a lodger is someone who moves in temporarily to a place someone else (who lives there) owns. So if I rent out the spare room in my house, then I have a lodger, but if me and my buddy go rent a house and go halvsies on the payment, then I have a roommate.

I fucking hate Corden. That said, I wasn't particularly fond of Catherine Tate's brand of... er... "comedy" but she absolutely blew me away on Who.

As long as Corden is acting a part he should be fine. If he's doing his Smithy/Obnoxious Arsehole act, that he always does, it's going to ruin the episode for me. I'm pretty confident that both him and the Who creative team are a bit more sensible than that though.

Last night I dreamt I was watching - well, I say watching, but partly involved in the events as well - The Lodger, Saturday's upcoming Dr Who episode, in which the monster was actually Meglos, played by Tom Baker's Meglos waxwork from Tussauds, which was only seen distortedly through the bathroom door...

Weird.

Twenty Teasers for "The Lodger"

http://www.sfx.co.uk/2010/06/09/the-lodger-preview/

  • The first line is very funny
  • A guest character from last week’s episode shows up a few times
  • There’s the first gay allusion this series (sort of)
  • The Doctor has more interesting adventures with food and drink
  • Matt Smith fans will be freeze-framing one particular revealing moment
  • A can of beer is opened at an important moment
  • The Doctor commits an act of physical violence, sort of…
  • A certain face shows up for the fourth time this series; another for a third; and others for a second time
  • There’s lots of witty dialogue
  • A regal couple put in an appearance
  • Amy discovers something
  • One of the most uttered phrases of series five comes up again
  • It’s the most unusual ever episode of Doctor Who Confidential!
  • It’s back
  • Someone says the G-word
  • There’s a monster’s hand in a drawer
  • The psychic paper serves several purposes
  • It’s rather a sweet love story and James Corden is actually quite likeable
  • Someone says, “I love you”
  • The Doctor is helped by some feline intuition

The BBC/Europe in general are not shy about showing someone's backside but if it's Smith's dammit why couldn't it be Amy's!

Alas, it won't be his backside. I doubt I could get away with using that for an avatar. Besides, I'd take a nice shirtless view over a buttcrack shot any day.

that'll be the past Doctors then. Bill four times, Pat three and the rest second.

One hand I don't think it will be as epic as the last scan of all the doctor unless they play "The Doctor's theme" again

On the other I hope it's more clearer than the last time they did it in "The Eleventh Hour"

It was hard to see the 4th doctor and 8th doctor when the Atraxi went through all the doctor's faces.

Yeah, I'm guessing we're in for something akin to Capt Jack and the cloth desolving ray. Creative shot framing.

Well, unless someone yanks his towel, they won't even have to do that. The view still looks lovely. :techman:

Yeah Stewart definitely looks somewhat the worse for wear, also looks like he realised he'd dug himself into a bit of a hole and made things worse trying to get himself out of it.

Having said that, and now having seen it, I have to say Corden doesn't do himself any favours. Not exactly pithy comebacks were they? I suspect a lot of comedians would have done much better and probably even defused the situation rather than ramp it up. Anyway neither one comes out smlling of roses...unlike Zoe Z, thought that was v tactful off the cuff attempt to defuse things.

That's the communications officer in her :)

I pretty much agree with this, although I find about half of Tate's comedy stuff funny. It is a bit curious that people assume that someone who they find annoying will be annoying in whatever they're in?

I mean I love Simon Pegg to bits but he was the weak link in Trek for me. I hate Jim Carrey's "funny" stuff but thing he's a brilliant straight actor. Now I might call Corden on Saturday night, but will at least give him a shot--he can't be any worse than Peter Kay after all
