Picard Season one.... I miss Star Trek

[ x ] "STD sucks!"
[ x ] "SJWs!"
[ x ] "What have they done to Picard?!"
[ x ] "TOS and TNG are the best!"
[ x ] "Orville is Star Trek now!"
[ _ ] "I'm not paying for CBS All Access!"

Come on, let's finish off the checklist. You almost have it all.

I got the free month. I'm glad I did. Why pay for it? TOS and TNG were far superior. I don't think STP will have any fans recreating any of the boring sets in 50 years or studios giving tours of recreations. It's just not that amazing of a show. It's just like any generic sci fi out there. Orville is great. Smartly written, funny and even tackles issues of the day without getting too dark. It definitely is something special. Getting ten episodes of Picard talking about data and ultimately being treated to a second death of a copy of his program was ridiculous. It took 10 episodes to get there. Lol. We got his death 18 years ago we didn't need another more depressing one with terrible cgi. Yuck.

Questions. Do you think Picard is so good that it will have iconic status like TOS or TNG? Do you think it's popularity will surpass either?

No. But unlike you I don't equate "But it's popular!!!!" with "It's good!" Which is better: Survivor or Mad Men? The answer is Mad Men. At least in my opinion. But what have more people actually seen?

You know as well as I that the television landscape is different now. Streaming, cable, the internet, YouTube, more viewing options. TNG wouldn't even get TNG's ratings today. What passes for "successful" now is not what passed for "successful" back then.

DS9 isn't as popular as TOS or TNG. But you'll still find several who consider it the best. They saw something in the series that other people didn't. It's the same exact case here. Now bring on your "But that's different!" argument.

By the way, I'll note that I answered the question you asked me, but you have yet to answer any of the questions I've asked you. You've dodged every single one of them.

You can still compare the quality and so far Picard's quality really sucks. That God awful cgi scene at the end. The uninspired 21st century clothing. The sets that often looked like 21st century decor. Man if thats what it takes to be a wardrobe lead or assistant as well as set director then sign me up because all I would have to do is buy clothes from penny's and go shopping at Staples for desks and chairs and grab a crap load of miniature lights at Walmart and I'm all set to make the futuristic sets of Picard for 24th century excitement! Lol

The Orville also has a lot of 21st Century clothing. Off-hand, I remember the two kids of the Doctor who wear contemporary clothing. At least from what I remember. I only watched the first season. The athletic clothing Bortus and Security Chief were wearing while they were sparring in the episode about Bortus' child's gender, also contemporary.

And the series was littered with '80s and '90s pop-culture references. Not even remotely early-25th Century. As if it was all geared toward Generation X. Which it is.

You seem to make a big deal about the clothing. To the point of obsession. But you're willing to give the series that you see as the true successor to Star Trek, the one you think is more like it, a pass. And why? I think you only give it a pass because you like it. No other reason. Everything else is just a rationalization.

Ha! I guessed that without reading the article.

I dutifully watched Season One of "The Orville", and even bought the DVD set and the comic tie-ins. It had some interesting stuff, but it does not scratch my Star Trek itch at all. I have bought the Season Two DVD set but have never found the inclination to find the time to watch. Yet.

However I have seen "Picard" and "Discovery" at least, so far, and the Kelvinverse movies (and "Galaxy Quest") at least four times each.

Trek is Trek.

Gosh, don't get a good look at McCoy's scalpels and Feinbergers. ;) Nor the bridge chairs!

They modified the tulip chairs they bought. There was an attempt to make them look different. Picards team just bought a bunch of office chairs and put them together. They bought the cheaper ones by the way. The ones at my work are way more expensive and advanced. Are you talking about the scalpels on McCoys sick bay wall?

Pretty much what I tend to see with Star Trek. New Trek didn't do it right so, so it gets compared unfavorably against old Trek while ignoring the references of the day and age. Also, a stout refusal to acknowledge that culture and society changes.

The article wasn't that bad. Bad? Sure.

Not that it really matters, but these are not off-the-shelf office chairs.

Orville hasn't been canceled it's getting a third season on Hulu they're working on them now.Check out Tom Constantino's twitter page. They filmed 6 episodes for season 3 before production was shut down in March. Season 3 is supposed to have 11 episodes and will be around an hour long for more story content Seth McFarlane wants to tell for this season.

I think it will if the next season is good

No I don’t believe it will. The first season toon 20 episodes to tell a story that could have been completed in half the time or less. The show has a void dark look that is rampant in most sci fi today. It’s more 2000s BSG then Star Trek now.

Picard is nothing like 2000 BSG.

characters with a grey moral code(i.e murder that is flimsily justified) Sets that look dark and sterile. Everyone swears like a sailor. Humans scared of the synthetic life they created because said synthetic life attacked them and killed humans. Yeah I would say there is a lot of BSG in the first season.
