Spoilers Picard Prequel "Children of Mars"

They might well celebrate these dates on Andoria and Tellar. But this is Earth's first contact we're discussing, and they're celebrating it on Earth. If you have a Google calendar, you'll note that it will list certain national holidays, then indicate the country, e.g. Independence Day (USA), Victoria Day (Canada), etc... Maybe this one said "First Contact Day (Earth)" on everyone's subspace GooglAmazoDisney Calendar.

Yep. It was a San Francisco school, and the human dad was the one mentioning missing First Contact Day this year. Kima and her mother didn't bring it up. And they went to school anyway, so it doesn't seem to be that big of a holiday

In somewhat related news, I'm loving the variety Picard has for Vulcanoid hair--instead of pretty much every single person having a variation of the same haircut.

Interesting that we're seeing a lot of balding Vulcanoids. Stewart's idea I wonder?

Possibly. It is possible he wasn't wearing pants. Is that the one with the protomatter terraforming project? Or something along those lines (maybe stabilizing a star)? It sounds familiar, but I can't quite place my finger on it.

Yep. Dr. Gideon Seyetlik(sp?) from "Second Sight(DS9)." He sacrifices his own life to reignite a dying star using protomatter.

Re: 24th century civilian fashion...

Good God.

It's not really any better or worse than what passed as fashion in 1530 or 1968...

After seeing the first episode, and now knowing just how many ships they were trying to build for the Romulus evacuation, it’s suddenly very easy to explain away why DIS ships were in those shots....
By that context we should be seeing Constitution class ships and other old ships as well.
Still seems a bit of a stretch though. They had over a year to evacuate them and there are already plenty of ships out there for them to need more.
Let’s not forget also that the more modern ships are larger and can carry more people.

Really?
The Defiant and the Prometheus are the most modern ships that are canon, I believe, and their capacity certainly isn't that large. Now, I'm no expert, Starfleet seemed to be moving towards smaller ships, more automation, less crew requirements.

Where are the big modern ships besides the Sovereign class?

The Galaxy would still be seen as a modern ship. The ship class was designed to have a hundred year life span and this would only be near its 4th decade. Not to mention they might have built others since the initial run. there’s also the Nebula Class which uses the same size saucer, making it still pretty big.
im sure there will be other large cruisers built since Nemesis. The countdown comic implies there are Odyssey classes out there as well, but I expect that was just the artist’s interpretation of what that time period should look like and not a official canon ship of that time.

And really, they DON'T need Star Fleet "Ships of the Line" for this - they need Transport ships capable of housing refugees - that are FTL capable; and able to sustain the refugees for the length of the trip (IE whatever Planet or Planets they plan to take them to.)

But how many would reasonably be available after the Dominion War?

I can't find the post where it was stated how many people had to be evacuated from Romulus. I do remember the number of ships - 10,000. Looking at Star Trek: Star Charts, the population of Romulus was 18 billion. (If someone can find the post, we might get a more accurate estimate.)

On average, each ship would have to evacuate 1,800,000 persons from Romulus, with many of those ships doing multiple trips. A Galaxy-class starship is a good backup resort, but the dedicated colony transports, like the unidentified starship sent to Tau Cygna V, could carry more people.

Why was the evacuation fleet being massed at only one shipyard, when the Federation has many shipyards spread throughout its territories?
