Spoilers Picard Prequel "Children of Mars"

... ok so I just saw the latest Short Trek "Children of Mars." Apparently I missed the October moderator announcement that it was to be a Picard prequel clip. The opening scene was kinda adding to that confusion since the Utopia Planetia shipyard was constructing what looked like a Magee-class science vessel & a couple Aries-type cruisers (obviously looking 2250's era). The school bus shuttle in Discovery-era design & then the UFP symbol in Discovery-era font. Of course it's a whole new franchise with evolving production values, I get it, it's 2020. Perhaps the opening sequence was to give an impression of the long value of the shipyard over time, not specifically for the current time period, per se.

... then 'Admiral' Picard's face on the Federation newsfeed, and the scroll going on about "rogue synths?" WTF. This is certainly one way to get a fan/viewer to tune in to the upcoming series. I look forward.

alrighty, my ramblings over ... back to you. lol
See! I said that it would be impossible to know until the end that it was not set in the Discovery era if you didn't have outside information beforehand!

You know I doubt they will kill Geordi but Leah Brahms might have been killed. Who knows if they ended up together like in "All Good Things."

Back to the Future Part II had the best futuristic clothing. Power laces on shoes and self-drying jackets? Sign me up for that.

And don't forget to vote for Goldie Wilson III for Mayor!
Dual ties! Tie-vests! Vest-ties! Transparent ties with gold coats! It really was cool :D

Fair point, though I personally don't see the issue with leaving the era as a question mark until the end. It's a common enough story telling device that I find more enjoyable than not.

Mileage clearly varies, but I see it as a nonissue, if not more engaging to find out the context of the Short Trek. I don't need to know everything from the outset.

Surprisingly brutal fight scene, I thought.
Perhaps I'm a little sexists, but I always thought that two girls who fought inside a school would just push each other and pull their hair. They punched each other in the face. Perhaps they do boxing as an extracurricular activity?

PS. Sorry, I almost forgot: the ships which appeared in this short for 8 seconds ruined Star Trek forever and destroyed my childhood. Now I know that Picard will be an unmitigated disaster.

Now my post is compliant? :p

Yeah, you have to learn how to throw a punch. I remember when I was in high school (and fights were not common) many of the younger guys when they got into fights would just push each other into lockers, end up grappling each other, and it would sort of fizzle out.

Having seen both in school I'll let you know that girl fights can be brutal, and punches get thrown.

Now I have two completely different answers

Honestly, girl fights are nastier than boy fights. They're like a fight to the death.

This is true. When guys fight often it's merely to show dominance over the other person, meaning there's often more unspoken "rules" - and the winner can basically show mercy and walk away.

Girl fights are different - they are generally out to make the other person be in as much physical/emotional pain as possible. So pulling out hair, clawing at eyes - whatever it's fair game.

You still need to learn how to throw a punch though. Most ten year olds of either gender don't know this.

More and more kids are getting in to martials arts at around 8 to 10 years old, at least in my experience.

Regardless, I chalked it up to dramatic presentation.
I don't doubt this, But you have lo learn how to throw a punch, otherwise you can hurt yourself.
You are going to hurt yourself regardless. Learning to throw a much just reduces that risk.

But, given how many teens I have worked with now who are threatening to punch and get in to fights there is knowledge out there. It might not be perfect knowledge, but the intent is definitely there. Also, boob punching and genital punching are not off the table either.

Ehi! Perhaps they teach Kirk-Fu during the P.E. period
