Spoilers Picard Prequel "Children of Mars"

Back to the Future Part II had the best futuristic clothing. Power laces on shoes and self-drying jackets? Sign me up for that.

And don't forget to vote for Goldie Wilson III for Mayor!

Yeah the first time I watched it I was thinking a year...without a break. But then I realized he wouldn't make it for the holiday this year. Whether that meant a school event, or just home for the holiday.

I would assume that most non emergency transport between Earth and Mars would be sunlight. And based on tech manuals, etc full impulse on a capital ship is 1/4 light speed. So I would assume civilian transport would be significantly slower and that it would be like air travel where ships leave at certain times.

It's possible that his work schedule and a transport schedule wouldn't allow him to get home too late, for a travel visit.

Or he might not like his kid and is using work as a reason not to visit. God knows enough people do that today.

I just saw this episode and thought it was a nicely done character study on the effect of their parents’ jobs and war on the children of Star Fleet members and civilian workers. I was curious about what alien species Kima is. I would like to know the back story of the Vulcan principal at the Federation school.

The clothing looked appropriate to me. I have zero interest in the ships and ship specs.

Just watched it too the one girls bad mood was just growing till the fight.. then the change of heart was just epic. It’s put together well and.. I wanted much more to happen you know...

Thumbs up for creating interesting scenarios..

... ok so I just saw the latest Short Trek "Children of Mars." Apparently I missed the October moderator announcement that it was to be a Picard prequel clip. The opening scene was kinda adding to that confusion since the Utopia Planetia shipyard was constructing what looked like a Magee-class science vessel & a couple Aries-type cruisers (obviously looking 2250's era). The school bus shuttle in Discovery-era design & then the UFP symbol in Discovery-era font. Of course it's a whole new franchise with evolving production values, I get it, it's 2020. Perhaps the opening sequence was to give an impression of the long value of the shipyard over time, not specifically for the current time period, per se.

... then 'Admiral' Picard's face on the Federation newsfeed, and the scroll going on about "rogue synths?" WTF. This is certainly one way to get a fan/viewer to tune in to the upcoming series. I look forward.

alrighty, my ramblings over ... back to you. lol

It occurred to me that "First Contact Day" not being a holiday on Mars makes sense as it'd only be a local Earth holiday (thus Janeway's memories of time off from school), and the tons of Federation species around the galaxy at Mars wouldn't see why Earth's First Contact Day should be any more special than Vulcan's, or Andoria's, or Tellar's, or whoever.

The people that live are Mars are from Earth. That's like saying, "Why would California celebrate the 4th of July?"
