Spoilers Picard News & Reviews from Outside Sources

Does the the guy posting this topic have a stake or interest in the website that is posting this garbage?

No, I do not have any stake at all in the website. I did not know anything about the WeGotThisCovered website until today. Thanks for enlightening me. I did not know the website was garbage. Honestly, I just saw the rumor and thought maybe my fellow trekkers would want to discuss whether or not Stewart is happy about season 2.

Yeah, sadly WeGotThisCovered puts snake oil salesmen to shame with their BS spinning.

It is done. I changed the thread title to something more closely resembling the parallel Future of Trek thread. And updated the opening post slightly.

I see this site pop up on Facebook all the time and I think I saw this exact article and same website, it's actually starting to annoy the fuck out of me. I wonder how much people pay for these sponsored ads.

Rumor is that Patrick Stewart is unhappy with season 2:

“Sir Patrick does not like the idea of being dead and now a ‘golem’- this is one aspect of the series he did not sign off on. The writers are [now] scrambling to reconfigure the season into something with coherency, which is not something the show has a lot of. ”

What do people think? Is it plausible, true, or total BS?

I think the source is very questionable so I would be very skeptical. But I think it is plausible that Stewart might be a bit upset with that direction to his character.
Can you say load of crap? they interviewed Picard after the last S1 episode and he liked it very much. He was looking forward to playing a different version of Picard, and he even felt it freed him to be more creative with the character.

It sucks how these things spread, for instance with the show Lost people still talk about actors not getting along with eachother and then they could never really give a legitimate source. They just whisper down the lane

Even if he wasn't a fan of the story choice I have some faith that they could straighten it out for him. Inject some Khan's blood into Picard and revive him

^ This. Sounds like the gossip sites were out of ideas and wanted to come up with some easy clickbait.

How can he have massive influence and then be “unhappy” about the plot twist? If he had massive influence shouldn’t he have known about the plot twist or even come up with it?
I've noticed that logic is not the strong point of these phantom menace related sites... and apparently, the people who eagerly consume and spread this stuff. (Not necessarily the poster who brought this here.)
I'm a bit sad to see this merged with the YT thread, though. I mean, there is *some* thoughtful content on YT, and I hate to see those thrown in with those clickbait rumormonger sites... oh well.

What would you expect him to say though? He's not going to discuss disagreements with the writers in public while doing show publicity interviews. We do know from Patrick himself that the whole death/reborn in android business was a shock to him: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/l...down-shocking-star-trek-picard-finale-1286604

"I only learned of [Picard's death] way into [shooting] the first season," the Star Trek: Picard star tells The Hollywood Reporter in an exclusive post-mortem interview about "Arcadia Ego" and the show's freshman season overall. "Because that final episode wasn't written yet, and I didn't know it was part of the storyline."

Stewart half-joked that, while the shoot was leading up to the finale, "there was a moment where I thought: ‘Oh, lord, am I being killed off? What did I do wrong?'"

We also know that Patrick wanted something like his movie Logan to be the inspiration for Picard. Getting put into a resilient new android body is almost the complete opposite of anything that happened to Patrick's character in Logan, to put it mildly.

At this point, if this rumor is true, I say retcon everything after Picard losing consciousness to be a dream sequence, Picard gets cured of irumodic syndrome somehow and revives in his human body, and the golem is used to cast a new actor to play Data.

I don’t buy that he didn’t know the direction of the show he had final say on.

I'd like to see a venn diagram between people who believe YouTube incel types like Doomcock, MidnightsEdge and Nerdrotic, 5G conspiracies and thinking corona virus is fake.

https://www.youtube.com/c/sutrowatchtower/videos

Just look at his channel, it is entirely click bait, hate filled videos designed to tell a certain group (males in their 20s and 30s) what they want to hear.

Jesus Christ. Nerdrotic and its fans must have a deeply unhealthy relationship with the media they consume.

Yeah, it's frustrating when thoughtful, intelligent, and, well, sane YouTube commentators get lumped in with toxic assholes.

Right off the bat, YouTube media commentators I respect include Bob Chipman (aka MovieBob)*, Trekspertise, Mikey Neuman (aka FilmJoy, aka Movies with Mikey), Jonathan McIntosh (aka Pop Culture Detective), Evan Paschak (aka the Nerdwriter), Kyle Kallgren (aka Brows Held High), Lessons From the Screenplay, NerdSync, CGP Grey, Kristian T. Williams (aka kaptainkristian), John and Hank Green (aka the Vlogbrothers), Leon Thomas (aka Renegade Cut), Maggie Mae Fish, Dan Olson (aka Folding Ideas), Patrick H. Willems, Steve Shives, Jessie Gender, and, of course, the greatest of them all, Lindsay Ellis.**

* Some of Chipman's off-the-cuff remarks on Twitter are occasionally classist. I think this reflects some internalized classism over abuse he received as a working-class kid from other working-class kids; he keeps his more toxic impulses out of his fully fleshed-out YouTube videos, where he can be incredibly insightful.

** After listing out my favorite YouTube commentators, I realize that my list is incredibly white and I need to continue to expand it to hear more non-white voices, too. But nonetheless, all of these voices are fun, thoughtful, and worth listening to. None of the toxicity of something like Nerdrotic.

It’s mostly because they have to keep their audience riled up in a constant stage of rage to keep them coming back to their sites and YT pages because clicks mean money. That’s why they throw out so much content and are so desperate for “rumors” that they scout through 4chan looking for even the slightest little scrap that they can use. Logic doesn’t matter, all that matters is the next “rumor” and “allegedly/reportedly, this new outrageous thing is happening now”. I mean they literally have the same arguments every time a new Trek series comes out - first it has chaos behind the scenes, then someone is unhappy, then some merchandise people are upset because “the toys won’t sell they want original timeline toys”, then test audiences walk out and CBS demands for the show to be “significantly altered” and in between all those Kurtzman gets sacked at least three times. It’s always the same cycle, sometimes almost word for word, and yet their audience eats it all up because it fuels their hate and rage. It doesn’t matter that it’s not logical and that arguments cancel each other out and that, with a little bit of thinking, one could quickly dismiss everything as fake. All that matters is the next rage moment and the rage click money it brings in.

It's all within the span of a few years too.

Fandom Menace Reaction to Discovery and Picard: "Star Trek is too dark now! It needs to stop taking itself so seriously!"

Fandom Menace Reaction to Lower Decks: "Star Trek isn't a comedy! It needs to take itself seriously!"

The bottom line is that the hatred comes first. The rationale always comes second. Even if that rationale is the opposite of why they didn't like the other series.

I don’t buy that he didn’t know the direction of the show he had final say on.

Many actors don't want to know where their character arcs are going until the last second (it supposedly makes for a much more realistic performance).

I will admit that things were a bit misleading at first - I mean Sir Patrick even tweeted a picture of himself in the writers room, which a LOT of people (including non fandom menace ones) took to mean that he’s sitting at the head of the table, instructing everyone what to write when, in reality, he was present for a while and sat and listened to the “ideas flying around” (his own description). He has by now said that his contribution was basically “Tea, Earl Grey, decaf” and the science fiction joke, AND that the original pitch that he was given for the show wasn’t really that present anymore in the final product (which is a normal process for any stuff that gets written, you have an idea but in the end things happen and stuff gets dropped and added, etc). He wasn’t sitting there telling them what to do with the plot, he was there to listen and maybe answer an occasional “do you think Picard would...” question. His title of “executive producer” is more of an honorary one, I’d say. Of course he could veto things if he really hated them and all (they’d be fools to anger him), but in the end he knows that they are writers and he is an actor, not the other way around.

Still tho, the Fandom Menace of course took all this to mean that he’s sitting there writing the show and it gave them the perfect chance to blame him for “destroying Picard’s legacy”. Now that the first season is over, however, and there aren’t any real news at the moment, it’s more convenient to claim that he’s “unhappy with what the writers did to Picard” because this will set the stage for more hate to come as soon as details about the second season emerge (gotta keep the hate machine running somehow, those clicks don’t come by themselves), so, the narrative shifts from “he co-wrote the show, he is responsible for all the awfulness” to “he was forced to do something he never signed off to do”. That these two arguments don’t make sense because they contradict each other doesn’t matter, neither to those who present them nor to those who want to believe them.

I mean of course Sir Patrick is being consulted about the second season, he has said he has received scripts for the first few episodes and ideas were pitched to him before that, but he’s - again - not sitting there writing anything (except for his autobiography, heh). But I’m sure the fandom menace narrative will shift back to “he is destroying Picard by co-writing the show” as soon as it’s convenient. It’s all so incredibly tiresome. Always the same tactics from these people. :shifty:
