I think the real gatekeeper is close to being identified...
What do you mean?
Who's the gatekeeper?
I am stating a fact. Alex Kurtzman is Terry's boss. Nothing gets on screen without going through him.

Yes, and the anti-Kurtzman people claim otherwise because they don't want to believe it.TerryTrek wouldn't exist without Kurtzman's blessing.![]()
Exactly. Kurtzman is the gatekeeper, so all his decisions yay or nay are open for debate. He got a few things right, but far far more things wrong.Who's the gatekeeper?

In your opinion. I've loved most of what has come from his tenure of Star Trek. More than what came from under Berman.but far far more things wrong.
Yup. That is the nature of the business. But, the wins are not given to Kurtzman. They happened in spite of him.TerryTrek wouldn't exist without Kurtzman's blessing.![]()
Same here. And even with the stuff I disagree with, it has given far more variety to the STAR TREK catalog for people to enjoy. That's a big win in my book.In your opinion. I've loved most of what has come from his tenure of Star Trek. More than what came from under Berman.

A little sarcastic. More observing that if Matalas has a success it is credited all to Matalas by members of the fanbase. If there is a poorly received entry all credit is given to Kurtzman, despite him being in charage.Forgive me. I’m new to this thread so I don’t know the tone, if you’re being sarcastic or not? Has there been reports of animosity between Terry Matalas and Kurtzman? From what I’ve heard from Terry he’s nothing but grateful to Kurtzman, and was one of the people he thanked when he got his awards.
Was there something I missed?

Given the tepid box office response to Harrison Ford's final Indiana Jones, a film I really liked, I cannot see why Paramount would even consider another Picard/TNG feature? To be released limited but mainly on PPlus, well maybe, but idk that's an odd expenditure for a company that's in the red.
Maybe Paramount isn't considering it.Given the tepid box office response to Harrison Ford's final Indiana Jones, a film I really liked, I cannot see why Paramount would even consider another Picard/TNG feature? The only Paramount Global asset that buyers want is the studio — the cheapest way to control it is to buy a New England theater chain.

I wouldnt say recasting was the problem, in fact Alden was quite good, it was other factors like right behind a divisive Last Jedi, it coming out only after a few months, if it was in decemeber it would have done better. and other factors.Miss: Solo: A Star Wars Story (Fans refused to tolerate recasting Harrison Ford -- never mind the fact that the man is 81)
IDK "right" and "wrong" are very subjective terms here. And considering that modern Trek is successful and popular I'd say your "gatekeeper" made the right choices. He got a few things right, but far far more things wrong.
I've felt like Picard season 1 and Discovery are like the "Becker Speech" from Bojack Horseman, where you can see all of the elements of how something should be great, and you keep hoping that it'll come together, but for whatever reason it never really does. But even here's caveats; change and remove a few aspects of PIC and I'd a tually be able to like that show, and I thought DISC had great characters, but just placed them in storylines that I had no interest in (plus the whole mystery box format I have grown tired of)
Yup. And Disney owned that failure, citing problems with the release take and marketing. Recasting was not the issue.I wouldnt say recasting was the problem, in fact Alden was quite good, it was other factors like right behind a divisive Last Jedi, it coming out only after a few months, if it was in decemeber it would have done better. and other factors.
Recasting wasn't it, but i think the studios have taken that path as seen with CGI Luke. People get recast all the time, look at Obi wan.
Agreed, for sure. For me he's closer to have a 50:50 succesrate in producing Trek I like and that's comparable or better than previous eras of Trek.
A crew on a ship aimlessly flying through space encountering aliens-of-the-week. The formula got dull. Kurtzman Trek also suffers from this, but to nowhere near the degree of the previous iteration of Trek.
I'm struggling to see the formula that Kurtzman Trek suffers from. Not even are all shows pretty distinct, but SEASONS are completely different within the same show. I couldn't nail down Discovery's formula from season to season let alone as a whole show. Especially when compared to Prodigy or... well any of the shows.
