Picard film in development

Didn't he order the Titan's new name to be changed from Picard to Enterprise ?
I don't know where you heard that, but no he didn't.

It ignores the entire premise of the show.
No it doesn't.

It's not why people tune in every week.
The audience doesn't want to see the exact same thing every week.

There's nothing wrong with having an off-day episode every once and awhile.

So, we, as an audience, are sending the message that familiar brings money. Not new, not interesting characters, but those with the names and styles of Trek gone before. And when something new is suggested, like Section 31 and Starfleet Academy, it is dismissed with "No one asked for that."
I'm old enough to remember when ENT was airing and Trek fans on this very board were begging to have the Trek formula freshened up from the TNG box they insisted on putting ENT into. There were plenty of us who were new enough to Trek that things like the Akiraprise debate and what the phasers were called or how fast the ship got to Q'onos were not dealbreakers and enjoyed ENT for what it was instead of the expectations existing fans put on it. We got told--loudly and repeatedly--that this was somehow a bad thing and we were enabling Bermaga to write to the lowest common denominator

So imagine my surprise to find that after 20 plus years of hearing people kvetching and screaming about ENT and VOY being unoriginal TNG clones and shitting over the fans of those shows, that a good portion of fandom are not just celebrating what was essentially TNG season 8 but actively pushing for more of that.

And now some are shocked that the studio is now entertainibgbthe idea of a fifth TNG film even after everything that can be said and done w TNG was wrapped up in PIC? What message did *anyone* expect for idiot bean counters after hyping up the one season of PIC that didn't fundamentally change anything except the window dressing of the show? Maybe it's a bit naive of me to expect that people say what they mean and mean what they say. Maybe people did genuinely mean it back then but as they get older are now falling into wanting entertainment to swaddle them instead of mentally challenged them.

But I do think it's a damn shame that fans don't see that having new stories with new crews is how we get more fans into this franchise. I was not from a Trekkie household and if not for ENT being separate enough from the other shows that I didn't feel intimidated about the franchise's history, I wouldn't be here. I want the franchise to have MORE entry points. If we got that stuff, I wouldn't even mind the nostalgia bait shows existing alongside them but we know how execs work and they prioritize safe for the masses stuff over innovation. It handicapped VOY, it flat out killed ENT and it's gonna be an albatross around modern Trek sooner rather than later.

I HOPE they don't drag the E-D crew out of mothballs (again).

Bring on Captain Seven and the crew of the Enterprise-G!

ie, "I hope they don't drag out those old 37 year old characters again! Bring on the old 26 year old character instead!" :D

What about the E-G's new crew? (The La Forge sisters, Mura, Esmar, Dr. Ohk, Shaw, Jack Crusher?)

Oh, I'm mostly just being facetious, if we can get BOTH, I'll devour it all.

Besides, if they bring out a show that I don't want to watch, it's really easy to ignore if I choose to. Thankfully, a Picard streaming movie AND a Legacy show both excite me.

I'm hoping the Picard movie is a backdoor pilot for Legacy.

The Battlestar Galactica reboot did something similar (they built the sets for the miniseries and then kept them for the series).

If Sir Patrick can help us get Legacy, I'm all for it. :techman:

PIC S3 was the equivalent to TUC. The finale of TNG and TOS, respectively.

Meaning a PIC film would be the equivalent to GEN (Kirk and Picard, or in this case, Picard and Seven). Or at least “Encounter at Farpoint”.

I just don’t see a Picard movie overwriting the TNG finale that was PIC S3. Did Kirk appearing in GEN or Spock appearing in ST’09 and ID overwrite the TOS finale of TUC?
