Yeah, Star Trek just can't win with some fans. Everyone and their dog whined for years that Disco was too much "the Michael Burnham show" and that it's wrong to "focus exclusively on one character because Star Trek is supposed to be an ensemble." SNW does spread the focus amongst its main cast rather than on one lead and now it's "Pike is too much of a second fiddle, he needs to take lead more often."I do think that Pike too often plays second-fiddle to others in the crew
None of the women on SNW are "Mary Sues." But since it's really starting to sound like you have an axe to grind with women, it's probably best for me to back out now.I do also think the show skews a bit too heavily in having the women crew members be on the verge of Mary Sue's and generally take the lead.
So, you're saying it's Star Trek? They tune in every week for a graduate seminar on ethics and philosophy.![]()
The use of the phrase "Mary Sue" is another indication that someone should not be taken seriously.
Garak: "It's all canon."There's no doubt it's canon Every word and date uttered is canon. Even the ones that make no sense.
There's also the tendency of some fans to view anything that's not considered the Prime timeline to be somewhat lesser than the rest of the franchise, regardless of quality.
That combined with the notion that the VAST majority of people watching the show don't know, or care if something is the prime timeline or not. Most people watching will just view it as a prequel to "the old Star Trek." For CBS to identify any series aa being something other than prime, would potentially be granting a win to the small but vocal minority of fans who choose to bash anything made after 2005, no matter how good or bad it is.
Not saying that's anyone here in particular, but there is definitely an element to the fandom that simply hates "nuTrek" because it doesn't conform to their vision of Trek.
Yup. Kelvin films were dismissed as lesser and still somehow wrong despite being an alternate timeline. The two most common questions I see are is this canon and does it overwrite past shows. Rarely is it considered additive and must be partitioned. There's also the tendency of some fans to view anything that's not considered the Prime timeline to be somewhat lesser than the rest of the franchise, regardless of quality.
Fixed that for you. That's how a lot ofTOSTNG fans like it.

Must be Kurtzman's fault.

In fairness, "Khan" is a title as much as a name. It literally means "king", so would be an appropriate name for a line of potential Ubermensch rulers. I guess they hit the jackpot with the Noonien Singh version.I do have to admit that I got a sad chuckle seeing one of the Soong's carrying a folder that says "Project: Khan" on it. How did he know one of the future augments would be name Khan?
Could be, but La'an didn't seem to think so.There could be brave, heroic Noonien-Singh ancestors we know nothing of, whom the family desires to honor.
