Pic of medical tricorder, communicator, and comm ear piece...

Looks like the real deal to me, although the "tricorder" is probably just Bones's medical wand and not the actual tricorder. Love that communicator!

I always thought the wand was the entire tricorder, no? I don't recall McCoy ever using the wand together with a tricorder....

You know, (and I've had this in the back of my brain for a couple decades) I'm both gratified that the TOS Enterprise ship insignia/chevron became Starfleet's primary symbol...and also mildly disappointed at losing the distinctiveness of the uniforms on other officers.

I strongly suspect that McCoy's Medical Tricorder might be a very different device than the other Tricorders.

It might not actually be a Tricorder, but maybe a different diagnostic device.

Perhaps it was mislabeled? After all, the description of front doors and a spring-loaded top on the Entertainment Earth description of the Playmates toy doesn't mesh.

The Communicator and Communications Device make perfect sense, however.

The side shot on TreMovie even shows where the Communicator flip-top hinge is located.

[epic win snipped]

Yeah, really.

Is the Starfleet delta really stamped into the communicator? Really? It looks like a promotional giveaway from a film studio. I dunno, the more I see of the hardware these guys are coming up with, the more WTF I'm getting.

It's got the delta carved into it? I guess I can live with it, seeing as no amount of complaining is going to do anything - but this is the internet! I can't believe they didn't give it the gold grate on the front. I'm boycotting the movie!!! ;)

Regarding McCoy's medical doohickey: it looks like a lightsaber, as others have pointed out.

Uhura's earpiece looks nice, though.

Kirk: Bones, for the last time, I will not under go laser-eye surgery.
McCoy: Damnit, Jim, it's your only option since you're allergic to Retnix 5. Aw to hell with it, I'll buy you some antiquated eye wear when you're 50.

Dudes...I am sorry but that Communicator sucks. The earpiece is the only thing that looks good.

It's predictable that at Trekmovie.com and here people like Uhura's earpiece best - not because it looks particularly good or sensible or anything, but simply because it looks like what we've already seen in TOS.

All of these look fine as hand props. I particularly like the communicator, and hope that the round lens is a video or holographic display.
