Seeing as the books so often try to tweak weird little quirks of the show, I'm curious if this one says anything about how Seven can't get into Starfleet but Icheb can.
Let's just say that wasn't ignored. (tl;dr = Seven had a checkered disciplinary record on Voyager and retained her Borg designation, refusing her UFP identity of Annika Hansen; Icheb was a model cadet who shed his Borg designation. Those, among other factors, including the duration of their respective assimilations, factored into Starfleet’s decision, as did the simple passage of time.)

Exactly the kind of thing I'd expect. (The approach to the material, I mean.) Thanks for doing it, and thanks for explaining. :)

That makes sense. She smart and intelligent, and would be an asset to Starfleet. But she also had some work to do. Of course we saw years later she did just that and would eventually join Starfleet. But you could argue back when she first returned to the Alpha Quadrant that she wasn't ready.

And as I recall even in the litverse she didn't actually formally join Starfleet (though I guess you can argue that was by her choice--I don't recall if she ever tried to join Starfleet or was interested). And she still had some run ins with Starfleet there, though she continued to assist them and help them out, as opposed to the Picard continuity.

I will always be grateful that Coda actually happened after months of drama about what was happening to the lit verse. I thought the idea was pretty good and the deaths didn't bother me at all. I actually thought it was cool that I got to see major carnage and death to characters that would never have the happen to them under any other circumstance. Yeah it was a downer but to see some of the greats go down in heroic ways was very unique and a once in a lifetime thing. I don't nitpick Trek like many do, I just enjoy it for the raw emotion and enjoyment I get out of each episode, movie or book.

And yes, I do realize that this is most likely a minority opinion.

I finished listening to the cds I thought the story was good.
I just wish they'd told fate of what happened to the nasty warlord after his trial and what happened to the nasty ex spy master Addani and what crimes he was charged with I thought that should've been mentioned of what his fate was At the end of the book.
It seems like there's more stories to tell of Seven's adventures as a Fenris Ranger.

RE: your spoiler-coded thoughts: In the end, those are just procedural details. How many movies and episodes of police/detective procedurals end with the bad guy finally captured and arrested, and the heroes just tell some uniforms, "Take 'em away!" The indictment, the trials, the sentencing hearings … really, who cares? It would just have slowed down the ending of the story. A good practice in storytelling: when the climactic action is over, get out of the narrative as economically and as elegantly as possible.

Finally got to start over the weekend and am about one-third into the book - I'm loving it!

One quick wonder:
Is Ranger Speirs a Band of Brothers reference? I kinda hope so

Does Captain Solok have a new ship or is T’Kala (Black Panther?) and not T’Kumbra an error?]/SPOILER]

In answer to your spoiler-coded question: Yes.

Mr. Mack, do you have an idea for a follow on novel to this one?
Not at the moment. While I could imagine writing more Fenris Rangers stories, I don't have any particular ideas for such stories. If the publisher or licensor want one from me, I’ll think one up. But I really intended Firewall to be a standalone tale of Seven's coming-of-age.

New ship. This is six years after the character's canon appearance; captains often get transferred to more prestigious commands after successful wartime service.

Mr. Mack I wanted to ask you a question about the Audio book when January Jones was recording Fire wall did you have to make script changes for the story because the editor wanted you change story ideas or plot for the script before your novel was released . I'm just curious about changes that would be made to the audio books. That would be different for a published book or the e- book novels.

No changes were made to the book for audiobook production. The audiobook producers do not get any say in the content of the novels. The content of the book is locked by the time a copy is sent to them for recording. The license they pay for is to record an audio version of the book as it exists at the time of publication. That's why the Star Trek audiobooks are specifically marketed as "unabridged" — that means "not altered."

Whoa, I had to check. It's not January Jones narrating. (or at least *that* January Jones)

Interesting how exactly half the months of the year can be used as personal names -- I've seen March as a surname, but not as a given name, I think. There might be someone named February or November out there, but I can't recall having heard of any.

Thanks for answering my Question Sorry about getting the voice actress' last name wrong. I thought she did a great job narrating the story. January is an unusual name and I mistakenly thought it was January Jones instead..

I don't know how common it is, but there is an sff author named "March Laumer."

(Wait, what are the half you identified? January, April, May, June, August... and what?)
