Photobucket just broke a million forums on the internet - including this one!

I have PB, and haven't been very happy with them. Back when everyone on the internet had websites they had to make themselves and hung out in chat rooms and had ICQ numbers, I got a Tripod account. A few years ago I finally started paying for space. Tripod is affordable. I don't have a website, just a place to park jpgs.

If you really want Photobucket to piss you off, have them print some art and send it to you.

Oh, lovely. I just got an email from "Photobucket Deals" (PBDeals) which reads like an Amazon ad.

It's apparently "just another way for us to show our appreciation for your continued support of Photobucket!"

That really stinks. I wonder what they think they can accomplish with a tactic like that. It's like "Hey, pay up! You're not paying us enough!" Which would make me less likely to cough up in the first place, and through that like learning about it from someone like you, we're all less likely to give them even a dime. At least Imgur knew enough to back down when they recently changed their policies, but everything in how photobucket communicates reeks of contempt for their customer base.

I just marked my account for deletion. They say it will take 24 hours and that I can reverse the decision before then.

I'm trying to figure out why I can't get PB to break. (I moved to Imgur a few months ago but I still have old stuff lying about.)

Are images that you posted as thumbnails with links expected to keep working? That would be snazzy.

I thought about it and then changed my mind. If I want to order art online, I have my favorite artists on eBay, Etsy, and deviantArt.

I take it they did a less-than-adequate job for an inflated price and then refused to make it right?

I use photobucket and right now it seems my images are still sharing and working, I do have a paid membership but it's the lowest tier, have had the subscription for quite some time, and haven't used any measurable fraction of my alotted space according to their UI. I did try uploading an image earlier this evening and got caught in a "log in" loop. (I'd click "upload" get asked to enter by password, I'd do so (auto-fill) it'd take me back to main page, click on "upload" back to the log-in screen.)

What kind of "sponsored ad" popup did they show you?

I haven't uploaded anything since this crap started. I've been going through my albums, saving the important stuff and deleting the rest.

It's a far cry from the user-friendly, customizable service we used to get. But I suspect that was probably at least two owners ago.

Years ago, Photobucket was the best image host around. Nowadays, they've gone the same route as so many others, though they seem to be gouging much more than some. A few years back I switched to postimg.org, because it's free, has few ads, and lets you store as much as you want and has no limit on bandwidth. There are also pay options if you want things like larger file uploads (currently, "Free" only allows up to 8mb file sizes), or anonymous hosting, those are available. Me, I'm happy with the free service.

Not getting *any* pop-ups.

There was an issue with the image dimensions and the poster size, and getting that sorted was more difficult than it should have been. I don't know what country Photobucket is run out of, but the art was printed somewhere in Europe, and I swear it must have been shipped by boat from the time I placed the order to the time it arrived at the nearest post office, requiring me to pick it up.

OK, so free account with free 3rd party hosting. Check! But per the official statement, free 3rd party hosting no longer sustainable? OK, maybe. $400 dollars to retain it? Yeah right!

Meanwhile, please tell me that Post.image.org just does photo hosting. I spent last night trying out Imgur then Flickr. Talk about being stressed out! All I want is somewhere to store my approxiametely 400 wargaming and RPG images to be able to post them on various forums!

Imgur seems to be wanting to be everything (chat room, wallpapers, is it trying to be what I think Facebook is like, which I'm not on?). Plus, where do you find the damn links to post your pics to forums?

As for Flickr, similar, but although I can find a 'copy link' option, I couldn't find an option to actually let me see a pic posted to a forum!

Plus, they both look remarkably different on desktop as opposed to apps on my phone. I know that's usual, but it was just one more frustration last night.

Or should I just use Google Photos, which I used to back up my Photobucket account images by individually downloading 400 or so images?

(PS - I like your av! I'm so ready for Discovery... :) )
Thank you! I'm also hyped for Discovery and Michael Burnham. When I saw the animation style of the new Star Wars – Forces of Destiny shorts I was inspired to depict our new Number One in that style.

Flickr is mostly for high-end photography. That's what they've been advertising themselves as, anyway. I don't think their purpose is for storing a bunch of random stuff. But for high-end photography, it's marvelous.

Postimage.org seems pretty good for what it is, a simple straightforward image host that does only that.

I feel, as an artist, that too many people nowadays have this mentality that everything should be free,

I understand that--but a lot of folks are broke--and free services allowed the intenet to grow. Everything is being monitized these days. You don't really buy anything anymore--more like a leaser. John Deere doesn't want folks fixing their own tractors--this movement needs to end.

Postimg.org is all about hosting images. You upload, select how you want to share, and you're done. They make apps available for phones if you want to use them, and I've even integrated them into my message board so people can just upload their images in seconds, no fuss. I love them.

I'm only just calming down tonight from last night's shenanigans, but I'll take this recommendation with a smile.

This was exactly me the other evening! I tried Deviantart before giving up as I could not find my way between the several groups and other things. While it's nice to connect with likeminded people, for now I want something simple.

I've converted to Postimage now as well and already love it! It gives you the option to choose your displayed photo size in forums while if someone clicks on the picture still can see the original size. It also - as opposite to Photobucket - gives you all links in one window so you can share several pictures with one click, instead of having to copy every link individually. Once logged in, you also have the options for folders to organize your stuff.

I am actually glad that I can start anew and sort my pictures properly. In the beginning about ten years ago I did some wrong decisions in naming my Photobucket folders but once I had them posted I couldn't change it anymore. So it looks a bit clunky.

Can you embed from deviantArt? That would be convenient, as I already have an account with them for my art and photography.
