... and to me, NVP2 is a close to new episodes as I could hope for!

Absolutely. The closest any of us could hope for... and we are thankful! Although I loved the new Trek film this summer, I have always felt that Trek was best portrayed episodic. So these productions really resonate with me. The pacing of the writing is spot on with ol' Desilu. Cheers!

Having just voted "7" in the review poll, I have to agree. My favorite is still "In Harm's Way," but each episode has had wonderful things to recommend, and "Blood and Fire" is no exception. The look ahead to Tasha Yar and Section 31 was great, and I particularly enjoyed the Kirk storyline when he didn't even leave the ship. :vulcan:

IMHO, STP2 is still the "gold standard" of fan films, and I'm looking forward to "Enemy Starfleet." :bolian:

just gotten round to watching it and i'm surprised at how much better each episode gets.
it's even converted my partner to a trekkie so it was worth waiting for

I just wanted to say you guys did a fine job on this episode. The VFX were top notch and the acting wasn't bad either. I always enjoy watching a new episode of P2. :techman:

That said I thought the Klingon angle was a little odd. Why did Kargh have an open channel during the Enterprie crew's crisis? Why was he privy to all of their pondering? Why was he allowed to witness the anguish of Peter over his boyfriend's death? It just didn't make a lot of sense, especially after the recent battle between them. Like NiteTrek said these were the most laid back Klingons ever.

Also what was with the Section 31 commander's green tinted makeup on his face? I thought maybe he was a Romulan in disguise or something.

I believe he had an open channel because Kirk wanted to be open and honest and show them he could get things under control. imo. ymmv.

I enjoyed it-though, it did drag a bit in spots. It might've been better to trim a bit and release this as a longer than normal episode, rather than a two-parter.

Also, I'm not fond of the "Be sure my daughter remembers the name Natasha Yar!" type of thing.

It's a fine line we walk. For every person who isn't fond of that type of thing, there is some viewer who simply *lives* for that type of thing in our productions. We try to add a little bit in just for seasoning--like salt. But we're carfeul not to overdo it, although we can't please everyone, of course.

And just for the record. the character's name is Jenna Natasha Yar. Evidently, Dr. Yar's daughter (whoever she is), named her own daughter Natasha Yar--after Dr. Yar's middle name.

Must become something of a family name, as the Tasha Yar that we're familiar with won't be born for some 70 years (fortunately, those Yar women are the type that keep their surname).

Well, TOS Season 4 would have been around 2269 and, according to Wiki Tasha was born in 2334, about 65 years later.

So, unless women are capable of having babies when they are nearly 70 in that time period, Jenna Natasha Yar would need to have been Tasha Yar's great grandmother.

Or unless this daughter of Jenna/mother of Tasha woman ends up being transported forward in time, either accidentally or intentionally, and ends up giving birth to Tasha 65 to 67 years after TOS, but after having not aged anywhere near that amount of time.

(Tasha Yar: born in 2337. "Blood and Fire" takes place about 18 months after "The Enterprise Incident"--placing it in about 2270.)

Pick, pick, pick, pick... ;)

LOL, not me. I've done enough genealogy work to know that it's not uncommon for names to carry forward generation after generation.

Yup, 2337. 2334 was a typo. Sorry.

As for the time travel suggestion, you guys are the producers so anything is possible. I think Jenna being her great grandmother is simply easier to swallow.

Spock simplying staying dead would probably have been easier to swallow, too.

Considering how often they keep dying, they might as well.

Maybe, but then there wouldn't have been much of a franchise if they'd done that.

Extreme Example: Alexander the Great invaded Persia in 334 BC. When he succeeded in his conquest, he demanded all the conquered provinces put up statues of him in their temples and worship him. This proved a problem for the Jews. The Jewish Kohan Gadol, the high priest, asked that Alexander instead accept as a sign of their respect that that year, every boy born would be named Alexander, and every girl Alexandra. To this day, over 2300 years later, Alexander is a common name among the Jews.

So, yeah, she could be a great-granddaughter, or even a few dozen more generations. Why not? Truth is a lot stranger than that.
