PG Porn!

The Last Tango in Paris is one of a handful of notable X-Rated films. Midnight Cowboy (which, let's be honest, could pass for PG-13) being another (and the only X-Rated film to win the Best Picture Oscar).

Don't suppose this is on YouTube? None of the other players I've found it at are able to keep the video and audio in sync.....

Not exactly. There used to be "X", "XX", and then "XXX".

No, there didn't.

Porno filmmakers made up double- and triple-X as come-ons.

"It's not just rated X--it's rated XXX."

Look it up, man.

Get some old copies of Swank, Oui, Penthouse, and a myriad of other smut mags from the 80's and you'll see adverts for movies that carry XX and XXX ratings. Even if the porn industry "made up" those ratings, they were still there, so don't tell me they "never existed". Just because you were born in 1985 doesn't mean you have a clue on anything from 1980 and onward

I was born in 1968, and I was reading those magazines in the 80s. The first skin mag I ever bought was the October 1985 issue of Penthouse: I remember it well--in part because it featured a pictorial with Traci Lords, having simulated sex with some guy in an elevator.

And I never said those ratings "never existed." What I said was that they were never official MPAA ratings.

You can read, can't you?

If you're done making a fool of yourself, try shutting up for a change, and listening to the facts.

Fact: the MPAA has never had a 'XX' or 'XXX' rating. The 'XX' and 'XXX' ratings were made up by the porn industry, because--

Fact: filmmakers can make up whatever 'ratings' they want; if I film a slasher movie, I could rate it 'GGG--for GHASTLY GRUESOME GORE!!!' if I wanted. But--

Fact: unlike real MPAA ratings, these made-up ratings don't mean jackshit, and never have. They're for advertising purposes only: at most, adult-film companies use them to distinguish different degrees of content.

By coincidence, I just heard that Gerard Damiano, director of Deep Throat and The Devil in Miss Jones, has died.

The item on CNN includes a picture of a movie-theatre marquee in the 1970s advertising both of these movies.

Note that these movies are rated 'X'. Not 'XX'. Not 'XXX'.
