Perspectives on Solitude

Although some narrow minded people will attest to the fact that gay men develop similar attitudes to sex as women, its simply not true. I'm not a gay or bisexual man but I do know several gay and bisexual men. In fact its pretty astounding how many sexual partners the average gay man has. Despite being labeled more "sensitive" and "emotionally intelligent" there isn't really much difference in sex drive between gay and straight men.

In 1978, prior to the AIDS epidemic, 75% of gay men who took part in a survey claimed they had had more than 100 sexual partners. In another, more recent survey, it claims that the average straight American man has 7 sexual partners throughout his lifetime. If I recall correctly, where I am (UK) the average is 11 or so. Then again, since the attitudes of sexuality are much more relaxed than they were in 1978, especially for unmarried women, we have to assume that the average female has around 7 sexual partners in her lifetime also.

So overall, men who have sex with other men of whom the majority have the exact same voracious sexual appetite, essentially prove that men are more sexually active than women, regardless of sexual orientation.

No kidding. The gay men I know are easily the biggest sluts I've ever met!

Anyone familiar with the song "I'm an Ordinary Man" from My Fair Lady? Alan Jay Lerner said it better than I ever could.

I wanted to say something. I was 29 when I first started dated my wife. Before her, there were days when I wondered if I was fooling myself about the idea of finding someone and starting a family with that someone. I never had a problem talking with women like some posters here though.

You can't expect to map out how one's life would turn out to be. I know that many of you would go "duh", but I'm still saying it :).

When I first signed up here on TrekBBS, it was early 2006. I was still very single, in a city where there was no good prospects for a relationship for my case. I acquired my old job around that time. If I hadn't or changed my plans slightly within two months of my registration date, I might have never met my wife.

I took time off from work spontaneously and took off to DC for the required medical check up for my " new" job. I met her when there was a protest blockage at the university the day before.

I almost didn't get the real Finn over a year earlier. I actually considered "fuck this" and turning around as I drove toward the breeder where my Finn was born. My username here would have been something else  One thing my wife likes to say about what she remembers about me before we dated was Finn :) Little things makes the biggest difference. Don't lose hope.

I realize many of those are content being single. I understand. I have a good friend who is perfectly happy single, and honestly, she's probably better off that way. But for those who are lamenting about not having a partner, don't waste time griping. Just go on and build a life. Somewhere along the way, certain decisions may lead you to your future partner. But there's nothing wrong about being single :)

I don't see anyone in this forum who thinks gay men are similar in attitude to straight women when it comes to sex. Gay guys are some of the most promiscuous people I know. Again, I don't want to generalize. In fact, I don't have a sex life. :vulcan:
