Jeans, t-shirt of the outdoor-'coolmax'-non-iron-whatever-they're-called variety, microfleece is my usual get-up, so in short, no I don't have a personal style For casual clothes I shop almost entirely in Next (jeans) and outdoor shops (everything else). I've always found outdoor wear, although more expensive initially, lasts a lot longer in 'nearly new' condition and is much better made.

Oh, I'm rather unfashionable myself. I know nothing of raw-indigo jeans with premium accented selvage stitching and what not..

There is no "majority", unless you count blue jeans these days.

Jeans are a particular blind spot to me. I've finally - with a lot of advice from guys who know better than I - found a nice pair that work for me though, and am selling off my older pairs. One day I'll get some premium denim (so far, I'm only up to Diesel).

I suspect if I ever meet Gok Wan, he'd give me a damn good thrashing.

I saw a part of a program on the telly showing that he was massively obese as a teen. Amazing transformation. I lost a lot of weight myself a while back, but nothing compared to his change!

I would love to have a Holdfast-esque collection of suits.

Just start.

It'll build gradually, over time. The last thing you want to do is buy lots at the start since your tastes, needs and perceptions of good fit & quality will evolve over time. Then you'll want to edit your initial suits very aggressively. eBay will become your friend here...

I have always wanted to wear a black double breasted silver pinstriped suit, just to see how it would look and what it would feel like.

Very, very difficult look to pull off without looking tacky. I wouldn't even attempt it. But you should still give it a whirl and see; you may have just the right level of je ne sais quoi to manage it!

My style-fu is weak in general, having been brought up on Alan Partridge "sports casual" and trying to break through to the nondescript "street" trends with mixed results. I suspect if I ever meet Gok Wan, he'd give me a damn good thrashing.

I seem to go through two extremes... one part dark grungycombo which turns out, as a friend put it, hobo-chich, or in suits partly inspired by my formal wear while at uni (the now Doctor Who style suits and converse) and reprised in recent years by my love of Oldboy.

It all depends on mood but very different. Mixing the two can result in very bad dress sense.

I'm sort of a cross between Carl Sagan and Carl Kolchak.

You sound like an aesthete. You enjoy beauty of form, shape, colour, texture and a strong sense of drama and a pleasure taken from the appearance of decadence. I flatter myself that I also fall into this camp.

I'm an aesthete, but on an artistic level, not as a matter of personal style.

Mine on a work day is casual business attire.

I prefer a wide leg, no pocket, no pleats dress pant (I have the same style in grey, black and brown) with a sweater/blouse/camisole combo.

Weekends are jeans and hoodies

I like to be comfy

Ok, I have had my personal style laughed at, mocked, scoffed at, and dismissed. My brother once termed it as "Pimpesque", A blending of classical, rustic, and pimp. Now I must say... I use that one.


I tend to like things which are out of my price range, but hark back to days of your that if I could afford I would love to have. Things like bespoke three piece suits, dress shirts, and shoes. French cuffs with cuff links, a pocket square for the jacket. Silk ties. And a fedora to top it off.

I like Victorian building styles of dark woods, fire places, rich fabrics like silk and velvet and leather, but blended with a element of sleek modernism like metal and glass desks and entertainment units and a touch of nature in the form of plants and animal skins/mounts.

I like the idea of "dressing up". I prefer polo shits over tees. I like the idea of wearing a tie. I prefer clean shaven and groomed over scruff and disheveled.


Yet, when I was talking like this the other day at work, I got an odd look from one of my co workers who said that "you are not normal. No one thinks like that these days."


What say you. Do I have an abnormal personal style sense? What about your personal style choices?

Hey bro, you're style for the most part is classic. Some may say that it's a lost style, but it's simply lost on most people. Not everyone though!

Nothing wrong with rich furnishings and dressing with style. And a woman with class and taste will respect it btw.

Like me, you have Pierre Cardin taste on a Wal-Mart budget!

I like some of the things you do, and could also be accused of "Big Pimpin'". For example, for my birthday last year, my brother bought me a fedora for the wintertime, and when I wear it, it makes me look like Michael Corleone in The Godfather -- to the point that I always mutter, when I put it on, "You have to answer for Santino, Carlo." He's threatening to get me a summer fedora, too!

I used to work full-time as a business journalist, so I do have several conservative suits -- navy blue, charcoal gray, patterned gray, black -- but don't care for three-piece suits. I have about maybe 10 French cuff shirts, and four pairs of cuff links, and one of them has a white collar but with lavender stripes. The others are either blue with a white collar, or all white.

I also have plenty of Khakis and separate dress pants, along with blazers in the colors navy blue, herringbone black-and-gray, and houndstooth black-and-white.

Wingtips? Of course.

And I do wear Henleys and other pullovers for my casual weekends, along with jeans and sneakers or casual shoes.

Now that I'm a freelancer and work mainly from home, some of those clothes are languishing in my closet, but Valentine's Day is coming up -- time to break out a fun combo!

BTW, Holdfast is kind of my idol here -- even though he looks a bit too much like the 21st Doctor Who! I think Data Holmes, Holdfast and I should have a fashion show! I'll put on my best Pierre Cardin suit!

My sense of style is more determined on where I live and what I do than anything else...cold winters make for plaid flannel shirts in the winter, jeans are about the only practical type of pants..(horrifying what hot solder does to slacks)..summer, it's short sleeved button up shirts, polo shirts and other such casual wear..again not too expensive as what I do is hard on clothes..when off with my wife shopping or visiting..often it's button down shirts, with a nice pair of slacks and loafers..

For more businesslike wear, I've a double breasted sportcoat and for really business like wear..it's a dark grey suit..often worn with a patterened tie...

for totally formal occasions, only a fitted tux will do..

Hmmm, well my personal style shifts every so often, but I mainly maintain what essentially amounts to a casual suit.

This sounds alright, but then you take into account that I'm a young(ish) student and my fellow classmates are in trackies and other such chavy clothes, so I get a bit of flack for it.

Next purchase is going to be a pinstripe suit...so yeah. Oh, and a frock coat at some future point.

Generally preppy androgynous (with a tiny element of mod thrown in), I would say. I prefer simple, comfortable, practicality.

Total respect. Always loved them and wish I owned one (or rather, that I had any sort of opporunity to wear one... well, if I ever get married...!).

The horizontal waist seam creates an awesome silo you just can't get with any other men's jacket or coat, no matter how much waist suppression there is through the side seams or the front darts.

BTW, Holdfast is kind of my idol here -- even though he looks a bit too much like the 21st Doctor Who!

I think Data Holmes, Holdfast and I should have a fashion show!

Throw it open to all the other guys & let the girls play too and you've got yourself a deal!

Heh. I finally broke down and bought Paige Wilshire boyfriend jeans. I was on the waiting list for 'em. Love 'em. They fit nice in the butt and just loose enough in the thigh to be comfy. I cuff 'em low around the ankle and wear them with a 40s style pump.

Bought a tin belt (really, it's tin lined with leather) to go with. Black close fitting t-shirt and a zebra print cashmere cardigan, plus a big mustard yellow bag.

Yep, I'm styling.



I'd say my style is some sorta amalgam of retro, boho, urban and California.

The clothes I design are definitely retro-influence. Love the 30s. I've been known to find a vintage 30s button an design a sweater around it.

A good pair of jeans should never cost more than what you would pay for a pair of Levi's 501s.

Mustard yellow is a great colour. I'm wearing a mustard yellow zippered sweatervest from Zegna today (with the aforementioned Diesels, plus an RLPL tan s/s shirt and a cheap plum chenille odd jacket from M&S). Will need to wrap up well when I go out later though; apparently we're due to get some Siberian weather.


I did my good sartorial deed for the day in giving away my mustard yellow Bally deck shoes today. After two wearings I've finally come to terms with the fact they just don't fit me right. Better someone else enjoys them!

I just meant that a good pair of jeans should not cost more than what you would pay for a pair of 501s. I'm a Wrangler man myself.
