Anybody would've been better than Pegg.
Agreed. I guess that was the Star Wars crap that JJ threatened to throw at us.Either way, they really should airlock the puppet. What were they thinking?![]()
LOVED Pegg in the part....much better than James Doohan for sure.
I suspect McGillion would have been a better choice simply because he'd bother to try to play the role and not just do a schitck. He already has that theatrically hang-dog air that Scotty drags around with him everywhere - you know, the way he's putting it on, partly, and knows he is, and knows everyone knows and doesn't even bother to disguise it. Pegg completely missed that facet of Scotty. And he was far too manic. There was always a deliberately slug-like aspect to the guy, again, very deliberate - his defense against that hectoring chihuahua of a captain.
McGillion and Chris Doohan vied for the role of Scottie. Pegg was great as Scottie
and the other two made cameos in the movie.
I think everything worked out for the best in the end.
Would Paul McGllion made a better scotty, or was pegg fine doing scotty his way.
If they keep Pegg, it's going to constrain them in the future. They'll either need to seriously tone down his heavy-handed overacting, or they'll have to avoid using any plots where Scotty plays a key role.
It's sad because Scotty was one of my favorite characters on TOS. He was sort of an anchor, without all the drama and hangups of the other main characters, except of course that he loved the Enterprise.
The producers have really boxed themselves into a corner here by turning Scotty into slapstick - this movie survived the error because there is so much else going on and it's not such a big problem; future movies might not.
I don't think it's too tough. It's really about the lines written for him. Pegg leans toward comedy but I'm sure given the proper motivation he can play a scene more serious.

I know this was accidental for you to spell it that way but I couldn't help but![]()
at the thought of all those guys running around the set dressed as small black long haired dogs.

Chris Doohan was one of the transporter operators, wasn't he?
