Spoilers Peacemaker: Season 2 - Discussion and Spoilers

Great job on Gunn for capturing the cultural moment. I know he couldn't have predicted the current mainstream cultural relevance of Kirk's death and its subsequent revelation of the prevalence of white nationalism in the U.S., but this latest episode is definitively timely. What a great commentary on the current moment.
I'm actually a bit concerned how this will play out with certain audiences. I've already seen some questionable comments and I haven't been fishing.

As a white man, married and with children who are latino (because LatinX is not a thing in Central and South America), into a multicultural family I admit that I don't see the small things sometimes that my wife and children endure until they point it out to me.
There's some big things to worry about in the current climate, hopefully you haven't had to deal with them.

How does Hoult gunn appear in peacemaker.i thought the series was tied to the snyder universe

As mentioned above, it's been retconned into the Gunnverse. This makes me hopeful that Black Adam and Shazam can also be retconned.

It's Earth X--well established in the DCU. As for me and my family, up here in Canada we're limited to micro-aggressions. That said, my wife intentionally let her American Visa expire because she has no desire to go to the U.S. right now, even though she has family who lives there. "They can come visit us."

I do want to mention that my personal "privilege" has only become fully clear to me in my life when around loved ones who don't have that privilege. The first time I started seeing things through a different lens was in university in Montreal when my girlfriend who was Guyanese but identified as black started pointing things that happened in her daily life out to me. The second was when I was overseas and had a good friend who was gay and then, twenty years later, when my family and I moved back to Canada. That's why I think this episode is so important. I've always thought of myself as a person who honors people of all orientations and skin-colours, but it is easy to walk around oblivious to parts of the world when they don't affect you directly. I feel embarrassed admitting that, but I don't believe I'm the only one who fits that description--and that is why I think Chris has been written so well this season.

I take it that means something in White Power circles?

I'm assuming the W stands for White Power but I don't know if it is a thing in the real world or even in the comics.

Ah, that makes sense now, I a bit envious of your citizenship at the moment...

Another detail...

Vigilante said "My father in this dimension isn't gay!" or something like that.

Given the Nazis' attitudes toward LGBTQ+ minorities, could it be that he's actually gay in this dimension too, but does he know better than to hide his sexual orientation?

That's what most people did prior than a few decades ago.

And, in universe, I loved how Chris didn't see it coming. It is such a genuine reaction that white guys, who claim they don't see colour and believe they are good people, don't see the racism that is in front of their eyes every day. As a white man, married and with children who are latino (because LatinX is not a thing in Central and South America), into a multicultural family I admit that I don't see the small things sometimes that my wife and children endure until they point it out to me. This show is doing what great scifi like Star Trek does, and draws attention to what's mundane in the real world.

That's the thing with racism and even further living in a Nazi world - you don't care what happens to people who are outside of your social circle and don't fit the template you have established. Once it gets to a point where you have "cleared" your world of undesirable elements, i.e. Nazis removed Jews and anything that didn't look white enough from public life you could stop caring about them and forgot them. Basically what happened in this Earth-X dimension where kids grow up in a completely homogenous environment and never have to deal with foreign people.

To be fair his mom is actually tone deaf in the extreme too, not a single shred of awareness, boundaries and limits. Sure it's Vigilante so boundaries are a screwed up concept for him and his mom basically fits just from a different direction but still - she doesn't realize at all she's crossing lines so his reaction were understandable.

Raises something I've seen pointed out elsewhere but not in this thread:

Alt-Vigilante knows the Spider-Man pointing meme.

Spider-Man was created by Jewish writers...

So is the comic a subversive text in this dimension or is Spidey somehow co-opted by the Nazis?

I never noted no colored people in the alternate universe but knowing Gunn and this world being too perfect for Peacemaker i started to wonder what if this was a Super Nazi world or something like it once the twist is revealed. Good that i'm not the only one who went there even if i wasn't as perceptive as you all were. ;)
Boy did you ever nail that. Great call. I really didn't see that one coming.

Also, if I was Vigilante's mom I'd kick his disrespecting butt out of my house.

I wasn't the first to actually pick up clues but knowing Gunn and storytelling in general i knew it was too good to be true and i just went to one of the worst examples one can think of - Nazis

Now i am curious where this will all lead to, i mean they can't change an entire reality all on their own and there's only 2 episodes left in the season so i assume it's just trying to GTFO and close the door well behind them.

I think that's what we're going to see. Although it now opens the door to the threat of an incursion from Earth X, or even a Freedom Fighters movie. Gunn loves his world building.

I'm Canadian with permanent residency in Colombia--my wife is the reverse--and my kids are dual citizens. What were you envious of?
I don't want to get all political and divisive but the US is a bit of a shit show right now, Canada doesn't sound so bad. At least you don't have to worry about your wife and kids being targeted going about their lives which I absolutely would if I were in your same situation within these borders. I'll leave it at that, didn't w

Thanks. Just the last comment on this though. We have our own political divisiveness up here.

I noticed the no black people immediately (partially practice from having a fanbase go through this already) but I wasn't fully convinced until I saw people talk about how we never see the flags fully unfurled, which at least made me think there's no way there was no twist to the universe.

Arguably one could argue that he's so closed off to her that this is the only way for her to get anything out of him or just generally interact with him, but that's just an assumption. Ultimately though it's definitely two people who cant communicate being stuck together basically.
