Paul Wesley's incarnation of James T. Kirk

Question for those so adamant about having any appearance of James Kirk on SNW:

I have nothing against Kirk, I totally understand if SNW wants to have him turn up once in awhile. Emphasis on ONCE IN AWHILE.

I do NOT want Pike to be shunted aside in favor of Kirk, though. Sometimes I suspect that's what they're doing, trying to push Pike out of the show so Kirk can be the star.

And for the record, I enjoy Paul Wesley's performance as Kirk. I got NO beef with him. In some ways I like him better than Shatner.

Question for those so adamant about having any appearance of James Kirk on SNW:

Why not? Do you dislike the character that much? There's absolutely nothing in TOS that precludes Kirk from having adventures with Pike, or even joining his crew.

It sometimes comes across as gatekeeping: "That's just not what SNW is supposed to be about." I trust TPTB for SNW, and they have earned a great deal of latitude from me. If they have stories to tell featuring Kirk, I would love to see them. In particular, I am really enjoying the glimpses into his family history, and his relationship with Sam. I would love to see both Kirk boys along with their parents in a future episode.

SNW is a prequel in the truest sense of the word, and seeing what the TOS crew were up to during this time period is fair game.
I do enjoy this window into Jim and Sam’s relationship; I just don’t want Kirk getting focus on SNW at Pike’s expense.

Spoiler alert for "Subspace Rhapsody".
Kirk and Carol Marcus are in a relationship and she is already pregnant with David. She is also stationed at Starbase 1.

There’s actually a lot of Shatner in Wesley’s performance and I think he’s made a closer study of TOS Kirk than many people think.

I’ve liked him more as each appearance has gone on. Much like Peck, Wesley walks a fine line between homage and personal interpretation and for me he hasn’t slipped so far.

Go for it. This is not one that I'm very passionate about. I think there are some enough differences to make it interesting. And that's all I'll say on it since not liking Kirk is unpopular.

Well, I'm with you on the not liking Kirk part. At least in SNW. He remains my favorite captain, especially since Pike's appearances this season are attempting to make him into the ship's cook rather than her captain.

I like him as Kirk, he’s definitely grown on me.

Maybe Mount’s paternity leave led to them include Kirk more this season, but I’d rather Kirk be around max three times a season, preferably 1-2 times.

I think La’an will break his heart, leading to his playboy status in TOS.

I think we’ll see Scotty join by season 4 or 5.

He’s definitely getting better. There’s a certain “sympathetic sharpness” to him now that I hadn’t noticed much before.

I don't see him being pushed in to push Pike out. So far Kirk has been a supporting character to one of the regular's stories (Pike himself, La'an, Uhura). Will that change a season or two down the road....maybe? But for now I think having Kirk in this unassuming supportive role to our current cast works. Personally I'm looking forward to the day we see Pike, Kirk, and April all in a room together.

I always felt Kirk's playboy status was his way of coping with not only the end of his and Carol's relationship but also he basically being asked to stay out of her and David's life. He was emotionally damaged.

That would be amazing. it would be cool if they did that when Pike hands the "keys" over to Kirk. also I love that they gave Pike and Kirk more of a friendship as well.
