Paul Wesley's incarnation of James T. Kirk

Fortunately, Abrams' films have made me more comfortable over time with the inevitable idea that these iconic sci-fi characters would be re-cast at some future point.

For example, Mount as Pike is perfectly acceptable considering that we've only had Jeffrey Hunter's singular portrayal to judge against. Mount has more than stepped up to filling out the role.

Peck as Spock has been nothing short of phenomenal. Yes, he looks like he bench-presses more than Nimoy ever did, so what? The acting, the intensity, the focus is all there and all that really should matter.

So as for Wesley, I thought he did a solid job stepping into the big boots of Kirk. If you want to be superficial enough to judge by physical resemblance, there's just enough there to matter but I don't want a new carbon-copy of Shatner for the role, young or not. What should matter is attitude, tone, confidence. His actions/reactions with Pike felt spot-on for me. Wesley hinted at the brash,break-the-rules Captain that was lurking under the restrictions of being a junior captain.

Wesley did an excellent performance and I look forward to what he delivers next season.

Any chance SNW would do a prequel episode to TOS:Obsession?

SNW has reached 2260 by now, so I'm fairly sure the Farragut disaster has already happened (it was said to be 10 years before "Obsession", which would put the disaster at about 2256).

However there could always be a flashback scene or episode. Or even a Short Trek.

Hontrsly Wesley performance was poor. However I just wish he bulks up
I can ignore weak charmless acting if he at least looks the part. It is not like shatner was seen as a great actor either but shatner had the build and the charm. Wesley does not have any of the qualities. Chris pine runs circles around him.

My only complaint was he wasn't bulky enough, he's a slim athletic dude but Kirk was never that. I liked his performance though. But it isn't really a movie, you can't tell an actor to spend months bulking up for a one off appearance. My friend met him at a dinner and he is a very nice guy though!

As a viewer and much older, i think i now understand the reality but brutalism of the expectation of hollywood when it comes to actors and how they appear on screen. yes it matters. is that a shallow opinon, yes. however it is just the truthful expectation of working in the business.

i am sorry but if you are an actor, you do have to look the part to play the part and if that means spending time in the gym or giving up your sweet tooth then so be it.

Paul Wesley does not look like a Kirk because he does not have the body, we can agrue chrisma as sometimes it is subjective but physique are more objective. while i also think that there is a difference between movie and tv expectation, heck i just wrote a comment about it on the kelvin forum about the SNW Cast compared to the kelvin cast but, I think for TV , You can still do better and paul wesley knows this. he was on vampire diaires, a CW shows were fan girls wrote to the creators that the actors need to take off their shirt more for eye candy.

Paul should have packed on some muscle for the role and i dont think he ever did, there are some pictures already on SNW season 2 and he still looks not like kirk. so when u dont have the body or the acting skills or chrisma, we the audiences are not left with much although it was nice to see paramount and their press release spin episode 10 as a perfect end to the season when what only anyone could talk about was paul wesley weak performance and lack of on screen presence.
