Paul Wesley's incarnation of James T. Kirk

He didn't work for me. He missed the swagger and confidence. In a perfect world, they could have found a way to get Pine. Second choice, and I know this is out of the box, but Jared "Letterkenney" Keeso.

That's one bovine physique. The shoulderneck doesn't work for me.

That would be kind of like how Napoleon Solo was muscled up in the Man from U.N.C.L.E. movie with Henry Cavill in the role.

Or Kirk and Spock were muscled up for the Kelvin movies...

Or Pike and Spock were muscled up for SNW...

"It is called Weight Gain 8000, Captain."

"Spock, your ass is ripping out of your uniform trousers."

"Yes. Nurse Chapel noted that. Six times."

"I see."

"I will correct the issue, Captain, if you want."

"No, I mean I SEE YOUR ASS, SPOCK."

The first one, not so much. Into Darkness? Kirk was ripped, but poor Spock looked just a little on the soft side with his added bulk:lol: then they all toned it down for Beyond except for Bones who looked like he could kick everyone's asses.

I'd have an easier time ignoring it if he didn't look so damn much like Jim Carrey. That's distracting as hell. So much that it took me a while to even see the actor attempting a Shatner impression, because I just saw Jim Carrey making strange faces and walking funny.

People complained about Chris Pine, but at least his lack of a resemblance to Shatner wasn't compounded by a striking resemblance to a famous comedic actor.

I do think this guy did a good job, his looks are just completely working against him here. They might as well have cast Jerry Seinfeld as Christopher Pike.

Memory Alpha has the two guards that that happened to listed as unknown performers.

Sorry, if I'm missing a joke here, but my humor chip is temporarily offline.
No joke, or rather, the joke's on me. I misremembered a no-dialogue actor earlier in the episode -in the scene with Scotty and the two engineers in Auxiliary Control - who had a very strong facial resemblance to 1968 Kent McCord in medium close-up (but different hairstyle) and had superimposed him over one of the doomed security guards. When the pseudo-McCord scuffles with Scotty, he no longer looks like McCord when seen head-on, so that memory is also wrong.
