Paul Wesley's incarnation of James T. Kirk

It makes perfect sense. I concur with @Pauln6 on this point.

Star Trek already has animated episodes that are better than some live action episodes. Arguably, there are a few live action episodes that are so bad that they're worse than every animated episode in the franchise.

Being live action or resembling live action by some measure of fidelity (whatever technique was used) does not automatically make something more entertaining than an animated version of it that was not rendered with the objective of being photo-realistic.

Same. I'd rather see a new actor tackle a role than have it Deepfaked.

Same. I found Tarkin and Leia right smack in the middle of the uncanny valley.

How come they can avoid uncanny valley in animated films but not deepfake?

Maybe they don't.
There is a different expectation in animation. There seems to be a willingness to accept greater measures of stretching reality unrealistically.

Deep fake comes with the supposed idea of being real because it comes alongside the real.

I think you can get away with a lot more in "cartoony" style animation than hyper-realistic animation.

So.. There going to show Kirk in season 2.. That would make it 2259-60 ish?
So.. Let's take the memory beta definition of David Marcus, was born in 2261. So, by that reckoning.. We are in the right time to introduce Carol Marcus. And for Kirk to have a relationship with her. Then have it break down. So, we could have a Spock/T'Pring type of story going with Kirk in season 2-3 ..

And then we can have Gary Mitchell introducing them, and Kirk saying "Alright, Gary, I'll see you around. Maybe Command will let you on my first command, alright?" This all happens right before Finnegan goes "Hey, Jimmy boy!" and throws a fake worm on Kirk's spaghetti, which is why Kirk prefers chicken sandwiches with his coffee now. Only after several years is Kirk able to enjoy Italian again. Spock then shows up, requesting Kirk come meet up for a joint mission between the Republic and the Enterprise. Kirk has one night alone with Carol before shipping out, but not before packing his prized chess board.

Get this man a contract!!!!!
;)

The uncanny valley exists with the attempt to make people look realistic.

When people are presented in a stylized manner in which they clearly look artificial, such as in a traditional cartoon, the problem does not exist.

Exactly. Like nobody feels it when watching The Simpsons. Or LDS for that matter.

Deepfaking is still an emergent thing, but it will be viable sooner or later.

HoweverI've not seen an example of deepfaking so far that hasn't felt somewhat off. Probably the best attempt I've seen was Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian, but even then it wasn't right. When they digitally created a digital Peter Cushing for whatever Star Wars movie it was then it was positively diabolical.

Looney Toon cartoon eyes? "I can watch that!"

State of the Art Deepfaking? "I can't watch that! Looks too fake!"

Attaching the phrase "state of the art" to technology that doesn't accomplish what it claims doesn't make it better.

Anyway and again, Tarkin and Leia Zombies were not deepfakes.

Yeah, even if you liked one or both they were in-house Disney CGI creations from scratch and not Deepfakes. There's a difference between the two that a lot of people clearly forget.

Did you see the long version in Mando?
On the lush green planet?

And forgetting his birth control injection

He didn't work for me. He missed the swagger and confidence. In a perfect world, they could have found a way to get Pine. Second choice, and I know this is out of the box, but Jared "Letterkenney" Keeso.
