So, don't know if anyone watched Sunday's episode, but it was pretty good overall. That is, right up until the end where they had the plane land during a crosswind. I don't know what happened, and I still don't. The whole CGI sequence looked to be accelerated, with the plane coming down way too fast, stopping quickly, and then turning into a different direction. Made my heart sink.
And probably won't get time to. Pan Am is consistently dropping in the ratings.

Another strong episode, good development for Ted (the actor is quite good). Wish the ratings were better.

My interpretation is that the pilot guessed he would be skillful enough to compensate for the crosswind at the last minute and bring the plane in for a safe landing. The plan was going badly off course then suddenly veered on course and touched down lightly as though the landing had been routine. It's ambiguous whether he was right or lucky.
That landing should have been waved off in that weather, and today it probably would have been without a second thought. I do hope they won't make too much a habit of the "hotshot pilot" motif as it robs authenticity from the show, though in this case it did serve the story.
Still, it was fun to watch - the approach to the old Kai Tak was CRAZY, involving a low approach and sharp turn over residential high rises (really, REALLY low!) before a landing on an artifical peninsula that dumps straight into the bay. Watching this episode really brought back how freaked out I was during my one landing there. Observe:

Thankfully, no one crashed on approach to this airport in all the years it was operating!

And yeah, the FX was bad, but yknow what, I just ignore bad FX on TV. I appreciate when they make the attempt to have a show that even needs FX instead of just doing another cop show or another sitcom, and I know they don't have movie budgets. If it's as good as Lost, then fine. (As bad as it sometimes got on V, tho - ugh! - even I have my limits.)
ABC’s fairytale drama Once Upon A Time got off to a great start last night, pulling in a 3.9 rating/10 share among adults 18-49 and 12.8 million viewers against NFL football on NBC and the World Series on Fox...The halo effect didn’t stretch to 10 PM, where freshman Pan Am (1.8/5) was even with last week. The period drama is yet to get word on a back order as ABC wanted to see how the show performs with Once Upon A Time in the lineup. The result is inconclusive, but more on the disappointing side. Still, I hear ABC brass continues to support the 1960s series and did another promo photo shoot for it this past weekend.
Sony Pictures TV is adding some top-level behind-the-scenes reinforcement to freshman drama Pan Am in anticipation of a back order from ABC... ABC is yet to make a decision on Pan Am, but word is that the rookie has strong internal at the network, which has several promotional events for the series slated for the coming weeks.
I watched it and I enjoyed it.
Ooo, maybe they're getting a full season pickup! I hope so, this is the one new show that I think deserves a chance to find its footing. Maybe Once Upon a Time can start funneling viewers over. Despite the widely divergent topics, the two shows have a similar sort of vibe to them.
