Pan Am...did anyone watch?

They should probably introduce a black stewardess first. I wonder when that color wall started to crack. Given the ratings, there probably isn't time to get very far in history.

ABC orders five more scripts.

Nice to see the soulless bastards of network TV sticking up for a good show for a change. Wouldn't it be nice if all the networks did that? (Wouldn't it be nice if they had good shows to stick up for to begin with?) :rommie:

And they're not sticking up for it because they're desperate. ABC is having a good freshman season:

Once Upon A Time and the Tim Allen-starring Last Man Standing join previously picked up Suburgatory and Revenge to bring the number of freshman shows given a full season to 4, more than any other network so far this season.

I think it's improved over the last couple of episodes, the characters are becoming more interesting.

If they survive to a second season, I could perhaps see one introduced as part of the new season as a new "rookie". Zoe Seldana would make a great stewardess. ;)

I would have suggested Marsha Thomason, but she's already on White Collar.

Saldana would be great, but I don't think she'd wanna do a TV series.

Yeah, me too. Though last night's episode felt more modern in the way the black navy officer was handled. It looked like nothing would happen until the superintendent tried to to have him kicked out. Considering the time portrayed, I'm surprised more didn't happen when they were at the train station.

The racial stuff was a bit ham-handed, but my real objection was to the spy plotline.

So the CIA (predictably enough) double-crosses both Kate and Niko by blackmailing him into spying for them in Yugoslavia, where he very likely will be killed, and even if he isn't, how can he trust the CIA to have Yugoslavia's best interests in mind? Yet Niko is okay with this at the end, and Kate doesn't throw a fit and refuse to work for the CIA any longer if they're just going to play her for a chump? That scene at the end was like Niko was on serious drugs, and Kate, well she is a silly, naive girl, isn't she?

Yeah, this is a broadcast show. :rommie:

But next week looks fun! Oh no, a sick passenger and the plane flies into a storm!!! That seems like the level of drama that ABC certainly can't fuck up.

More ratings news.

Next week will be crucial for ABC’s new drama Pan Am. The network is expected to decide whether to pick up additional episodes from the 1960s airline soap/spy drama (ABC gave the Sony Pictures TV-produced show an order for five scripts last week), and Pan Am will have its highest-profile overseas debut on BBC2. So far, the period drama is off to a solid start internationally, performing stronger abroad than it has in the U.S.

Let's hope it gets a good reception! I've felt that this will probably get a better international reception than most shows due to its international focus.

Tonight's episode set in Haiti was the best since the Berlin episode, in my opinion. Loved it. I was also very impressed with Collette. The actress they chose is very convincing in her role, in particular her French which is very good. The only thing I felt was iffy was the takeoff. But an otherwise strong episode.
