Palin steps down as governor

If she was the Republican nominee I'd vote for her, albeit highly reluctantly.

While I have a lot of respect for her, this would be the only way I'd vote for her. If Obama has showed us anything it's that we really do need someone with many years of executive experience in that office. While Romney does, I'm not real thrilled with him at all.

I just like how she works people up in a lather simply by being in the news.

This points to a scandal. One very similar to what that indicted Alaskan Senator had with a construction company.

Many political observers in Alaska are fixated on rumors that federal investigators have been seizing paperwork from SBS in recent months, searching for evidence that Palin and her husband Todd steered lucrative contracts to the well-connected company in exchange for gifts like the construction of their home on pristine Lake Lucille in 2002. The home was built just two months before Palin began campaigning for governor, a job which would have provided her enhanced power to grant building contracts in the wide-open state.

SBS has close ties to the Palins. The company has not only sponsored Todd Palin's snowmobile team, according to the Village Voice's Wayne Barrett, it hired Sarah Palin to do a statewide television commercial in 2004.

Though Todd Palin told Fox News he built his Lake Lucille home with the help of a few "buddies," according to Barrett’s report, public records revealed that SBS supplied the materials for the house. While serving as mayor of Wasilla, Sarah Palin blocked an initiative that would have required the public filing of building permits—thus momentarily preventing the revelation of such suspicious information.
Whole story is in the link.

Good maybe now she can just dissappear and we can all forget about her. Because she truly scares me.

I've already heard so far unconfirmed rumors the IRS are looking into her finances.

With this administration it wouldn't surprise me. But can you imagine how embarrassing this could turn out to be if she's guilty? How would she ever live down being nominated by Obama to his cabinet???

from her own words this has nothing to do with getting out of the spotlight and
looking after her kids and grandkid.

Life is too short to compromise time and resources... it may be tempting and more comfortable to just keep your head down, plod along, and appease those who demand: "Sit down and shut up", but that's the worthless, easy path; that's a quitter's way out. And a problem in our country today is apathy. It would be apathetic to just hunker down and “go with the flow”.

Nah, only dead fish "go with the flow".

No. Productive, fulfilled people determine where to put their efforts, choosing to wisely utilize precious time... to BUILD UP.

And there is such a need to BUILD up and FIGHT for our state and our country. I choose to FIGHT for it! And I'll work hard for others who still believe in free enterprise and smaller government; strong national security for our country and support for our troops; energy independence; and for those who will protect freedom and equality and LIFE... I'll work for and campaign for those PROUD to be American, and those who are INSPIRED by our ideals and won't deride them

like i said before i belive she has fallen in love with the spotlight, the travel and the
paid expenses.

she has a book deal possibly worth up to seven million coming out(does anyone know
what would have been the difficulties of keeping all the money if she remained govenor?)
plus, with all the talk of becoming an advocate for energy i wouldnt be suprised if she became a spokesperson for some big energy company or a group pushing a far right wing agenda.

she's has had a taste of life down among the bright lights of the lower 48
and she liked it.

There wouldn't be any problem with her keeping money from a book.

Even the Cadillac of Governors, Deval Patrick of Mass, went to NY to get a book deal instead of doing the governments work when the legislature was voting on allowing Casinos. One of his big proposals. He wouldn't be doing that if he wasn't going to keep the money.

Turns out it was more that she was doing the old "scratch my back" routine as the article right above points out. Nothing to do with her finances directly, yet.

Actually she was the reason McCain's beating wasn't worse.
I think she initially helped McCain get a fairly sizable boost, but in the end she ended up being another drag on the McCain camp. I love McCain he is one of my absolutely favorite politicians, but Palin was too socially conservative to be on his ticket. He should have picked someone with a more moderate stance that would have broadened the appeal of the ticket instead of narrowing it. That said, I don't think McCain had a chance of winning because of a two main things: McCain's age and the fact that Bush was President.

yeah i suspected that she would be able to keep the money but some states are funky about some of that.
though now she will be free to tour as much as she would like to on a promotion tour for the book.
something she would not be able to do as govenor.

By 2012, Obama will be the one with the most presidential experience. :)
Heck, two wars, worst economic meltdown in decades, NoKo nuclear sabre rattling, Iran imploding.......he's already done his four years worth.

I seem to recall talk about Alaskan laws being stricter than many other states on this subject. People seemed to believe that she wouldn't be able to keep any of the money (at least, not if it were released while she was a Governor).

Well, that would truly make her the best person to be President...skipping town because you can make a quick buck elsewhere.

Hay maybe now she can take the time to learn the names of some newspapers. And even read them!

ok lol cheapshot. But seriously over here we had to consider the possibility of her being one old man's heart attack away from being President of the USA. Which was kind of scary.

Good God, people are vicious.

Personally...I have no idea whether she's setting up for 2012 or not--but I find the pitch and tenor of the personal attacks against her very disgusting to say the least, and I would not be surprised if that WAS sufficient cause for her to resign. People have had no compunctions about going after her family in their efforts to destroy her...and there's something very wrong and very un-American about that.

Way to make sure no one who cares about their family will ever want to enter politics.

I agree. I'm not a Palin supporter, but why do people have to be so mean spirited about these things?

I get so sick of the constant Sean Hannity type attacks on Obama and the Keith Olbermann type attacks on people like Palin.

The end result of complete liberal or conservative power is a nightmare as far as I'm concerned.

With Palin I was of two minds. I found her better than the alternative in policies, but I was not THAT crazy about her as far as her experience level in national-level politics.

But disagreement is so NOT an excuse to go after someone's family. I've even seen it around here. And sad to say, I also think that in addition to discouraging people from going into politics in general, it will be disproportionately discouraging to women given that they will be savaged on a whole other level than men (though Bush was subjected to treatment just as bad, in its own way). I even think it sends a dangerous signal that if you take pride in your femininity, as Palin seemed to, you will be treated as not-candidate-material and an object of ridicule and your family and appearance will be used to hurt you in ways that would NEVER be done to a man, no matter how strong you may be.

Very sad, that.

Well I'd agree picking on her family is a low blow.

But I mean... people trying to stand up for here while playing safe by saying "ehh i'm not too keen but she was better than the alternatives". Was there some alternate US where those alternatives were Galvatron and Barney Gumble?
