Palin steps down as governor

I doubt this is because of any kind of scandal. It's already known that she's a Scientologist now, I can't think of anything that would be worse than that.

Um, if any Scientologists are reading this: please stop breaking my windows and killing my pets.

I've already heard so far unconfirmed rumors the IRS are looking into her finances.

You might have forgotten, but people decided that very thing in November.

I wasn't aware Sarah Palin ran for President last year.

She was on the ticket and her lack of experience was seen as a drag. Quitting half way through your only serious experience isn't going be able to be spun in a positive way for her in 2012.

Actually she was the reason McCain's beating wasn't worse.

Give me a pro-life woman over a guy that voted to deny life saving aid to babies anyday. :techman:

from the republicans i talked too she lost them the presidency.

any way i doubt if it is too look after her family.
she said..
She said leaving office is in the best interest of the state and will allow her to more effectively advocate for issues of importance to her, including energy independence and national security.

personally i dont think she is happy unless she has the spot light on her.
she has become like some of these media star junkies,, she has to be in the midst of the action with the cameras on.
and being govenor way off in alaska just wasnt cutting it.

I can see the partisan press wetting their diapers even more than a month ago. It's so funny how those that direct them are so scared of her.

What does this even mean?
Translation: "Fuck!"

He's obviously just parroting her inane, ranting babble like a good little sheep. The funniest part of this whole situation will be watching certain people fall all over themselves trying to spin this as a resounding "victory " for conservative values (like quitting). They'd be better off not saying anything, but they won't do that, providing everyone else with endless hours of FAIL.

Give me a incoherent deadbeat governor who can't hack it over a guy that voted to deny life saving aid to babies anyday. :techman:
Case in point. Oh and I fixed that for you, TLS. No need to thank me.

While I'm glad she resigned it's disturbing that this person was close to becoming the VP of the US. Her incoherent rambling was hideous and she just lost any chance at becoming nominated due to her whining and quitting. It's terrifying that a person like this was elected to higher office.

I wouldn't say she came "close" to being the VP but she came close enough to be a concern. Although it might also be she turned the tide for the Republicans and effectively sunk them when they did a piss-poor job vetting her then her handlers failed to keep her mouth shut when she'd go off saying something ludicrous.

Well, if McCain hadn't picked a running mate, he probably would have done much worse.

McCain/McCain 2012!

Please don't alter the wording of anyone's post. I know you pointed it out so it was obvious, but we frown on that here. Thanks.

Actually she was the reason McCain's beating wasn't worse.

She gave his sagging campaign a much needed boost initially, but then she started giving interviews and quickly went from being an asset to a liability. In the end I think it was pretty obvious that she hurt him. I doubt he would have won anyway, but he probably would have done better without her. Of course it's all hypothetical since we don't know who else he would have picked instead.

^ Had he picked Gov. Crist, Florida would have been more likely to vote for him and Crist may have helped stave off losses in North Carolina and Indiana and might have made Virginia a bit closer. Obama still likely would have won, but Crist would have changed the map.

As for Palin, as much as despise her as a politician, I wish her well ... if this is, legitimately, a move to simplify her life and spend more time with her family. I can respect that.

But the cynic in me can't help but wonder what the real reason behind all of this might be.

It does seem a bit oddly timed to be related to any kind of build-up to a presidential bid, so I tend to doubt it's that. Though she might do so later on.

If it is because of her family being in the spotlight too much, or to take care of the kids, I wish her well in that also. I disagree with her completely politically, but she seems like a nice enough person.

Meh, my bet is she's going underground, getting a book out later, some other low level publicity, and trying to keep out of trouble until she can strike for the presidency.

Because things like the Letterman squabble, constant ethics complaints, aren't doing her PR figures well. And she needs to not only get the hard line Republicans that worship her, but also the moderates and independants that shunned her in the last election cycle. Constantly being in negative news isn't getting her those.
