P/C run amok...

It is kind of harsh to go back to 1987, since they weren't dating back them.

I know this is about Patrick Stewart, but I think there must be something in the water in Hollywoodland. There's an age gap, too, between Mr and Mrs Frakes. I think they met on Bare Essence, when he would be around 30 and she 18 or so.

Thanks, guys: I got a reputation for quality signatures a while ago which I now struggle to maintain ... :(

I agree that this is a common Hollywood phenomenon. There's something of a world wide age gap, but it certainly seems to be greater amongst well known actors.

Your reputation for quality sigs continues.

I was wondering the other day, is this really a shipper thread? I tend to steer clear of such threads in other areas of the board because they seem to be a bit limited and often get snippy quite quickly. Does this thread count? Shouldn't we be posting hot pics of the stars and denoucing all other ships or something?

I guess that it started out as a 'shipping thread, but I prefer to think of it as a "community thread", sort of like they have in DS9. It can go off topic without causing alarm.

EDIT: I should give my thanks to those who have started / contributed to this thread, as I consider it to be one of the keys to the recent resurgence of the TNG forum. :)

It's a good question. As much as I'd like to deny the shipper concept, I think that the "/" in the title gives the game away. Even though we discuss anything and everything to do with Jean-Luc, Beverly, Jack, Wesley and Walker Keel, it basically does come back to the fact that we kinda sorta think Jean-Luc and Beverly ought to get together some day. Maybe. At least for some HOT SEX.

And I hate to break it to you, but there are pictures in this thread. If you go right back to the start, you'll see my "Beginners' Guide to P/C". Most of them are links, granted, and most of the captions are spurious, but they are still pictures.

Thank you. :o I suppose it does give a sense of activity to the forum, although I'm not sure how many people it will have drawn in. If I had to choose, I would give the credit to the enduring quality of TNG.

^ I've long worried we were just a Jack Crusher thread by stealth.

Thanks Grizzly though I don't really believe it. I think it's your episode ratings and caption this threads that has got the old place lively again.

Who's actually reading this thread? I bet there's no more than 10 of us.

Hm... when I first looked at it, I wanted to look *away* because I'm not a P/C shipper, quite the opposite...

*hides from everyone*

^ There's always room for anyone with a nice Picard av. :)

Aww thank you :) I'm glad to hear that - I like your avatar, too, isn't it from the episode 'Encounter At Farpoint'?

Why is the United Federation of Palnets a psuedo-Communist society, apparently with no capitalism and money?
Probably because this was Gene Roddenberry's idea of a Utopian society. Picard, in The Neutral Zone certainly seems to view the moneyless economy as the key to full human development; Beverly tells Kyril Finn that she lives in an "ideal culture". Of course, we know that it isn't a perfect world unless P and C are together. ;)

But we need money, need capitalism, for the progress of human society!!!

It would be alot better if the United Federation of Planets was capitalist, instead of commie, with huge interstella cartels.

For example Starfleet would have multi-trillion dollar contracts with major corporations for warp engines, ship components and the like.

Also the fact that Cochrane invented the Warp Drive so he could make vast sums of money to buy out a island and populating it with naked women, is an obvious jibe at Gene Ronddenberry's naive and impossible dream of a world without money. :D ;)

^ OK I know I said this wasn't a traditional shipper thread but I think this is an unusual side topic even for us.

This could be worth starting a separte thread on if you want more people to reply, Big Gorilla.

You mentioned human greed, which I think is a key point. Roddenberry believed that human greed would be a thing of the past in the future, thus making a future without money a real possibility. I think that that is possible, but it will probably take more than 400 years to come about, in reality.

Here's a question for everyone: what do you think Beverly saw in Jean-Luc? What do you think Jean-Luc saw in Beverly? In other words, why were they attracted to one another in the first place?

Anyone who answers "because he/she is hot" will be shot without trial.
