Other remastered movies you'd like to see on the big-screen.

I just got back from a showing of the original Back to the Future remastered (in terms of a cleaned up print of the original film. Not the Lucasian way of doing it when you add in crappy scenes and effects for the sake of doing it.) And, WOW. Not only did the movie look good but it was just fun seeing an old, classic, movie like this on the big-screen. I noticed little details I don't think I've ever noticed before. (Mostly facial gestures Doc was making towards Marty in the garage scene with Lorraine.)

So what are some other classics you'd like to see get a similar treatment? What other old movies (and by old I'll establish a baseline of any movie 20 years old or older) would like to see them take, remaster (that is clean-up the original film, enhance it and maybe even convert it to digital. No adding of effects, no adding in of scenes, and maybe, maybe, at the most replace dodgy-looking effects with something (without going overboard. Stuff along the lines of removing the support arm for the Enterprise-model in the spacedock scene in the old TOS movies, or replacing the scenes with CGI effects (again nothing Lucasian stuff more along the lines of what was done to TMP on DVD but maybe not even that extreme. (I say this because I'd like to see some of the effects and stuff replaced or cleaned up int he second BTTF movie.)

It was blast for me to see this movie on the big screen with a crowd of fans. So what other movies could they do?

I'd like to see the original Die Hard and Ghostbusters.

I've been seeing quite a few films on the big screen in memphis lately. I've seen the restored metropolis, The Blues Brothers, and Ed Wood (Which was presented by one of the screenwriters and in a newly struck 35mm print) all in the past two weeks. It's film festival time, sadly I don't get this oppurtunity all year.

I saw Back to the future earlier this year, although I don't think it was the new print. Even better was E.T., John Williams score was fantastic on the theater speakers.

Year before that was Lawrence of Arabia, which feels completely different on the big screen.

Honestly, movies are meant to be watched in theaters, so I'd see almost anything, although I agree some movies cry out for the big screen.

I agree with the previous suggestions of Die hard, Ghostbusters and 2001.
I would also go for cleaned up remastered theatrical showings of the first 6 Star Trek movies.

I have a repertory cinema in my neighbourhood that only plays classic movies, homegrown stuff, independent cinema and foreign movies you won't see anywhere else. For instance, those last two mentioned, Forbidden Planet and Robin Hood, they've played both those within the last 6 months.

I love that place.

I missed it when it re-came out six years ago, and now with it's upgrade to HD I'd really like to see that print on the big screen.

I would love to be able to go the theater and see all of John Wayne's movies back on the big screen. Not that I haven't seen them hundreds of times, but I would like to experience that. IIRC, the only 3 I got to see on the big screen when they were released were True Grit, Big Jake, and The Train Robbers. Would love to go back and see classics like The Searchers or Rio Bravo.

The Star Trek Trilogy (II,III,IV)

Good call. Several years ago, I finally got a chance to see those films on the big screen at the Harkins Valley Art theater. They were old prints but they were in pretty good shape. The starship models look much more convincing on the big screen.

Since I now live in Los Angeles, there's an opportunity for this sort of thing all the time, but FORBIDDEN PLANET would be fun to see on the big screen.

And, though I've seen it in 35mm twice, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY is really only done justice on the big screen. Hopefully I'll see one of those 70mm film prints that are floating around someday.

The Searchers was shot in VistaVision, where the film ran horizontally. I find it pretty disappointing that I will never see it projected in that format.

They put a lot of work into the recent Blu-ray version, complete with improved color grading and all the bells and whistles.

It worked so well, they gave the same treatment to the original movie too.
