Orphan Black - Season 2 Discussion

Yes, I understood Aldo perfectly. I was just under the impression that Tony had been born "trans".

I don't think that's what "trans" means. What you seem to be referring to, being anatomically in between the "standard" sexes or having attributes of both, is called intersex. Transsexuality is having a psychological gender identity that's the opposite of your anatomical sex, with transgender individuals often undergoing sex reassignment surgery to bring their bodies in line with their gender identities. One can start out with an entirely female anatomy but undergo surgery and hormonal therapy to change one's body into a male form, although the "package" will be largely cosmetic. Tony -- or Antonia, originally -- may have been born trans in the sense of always having a masculine gender identity, but that doesn't require him to have been born intersex.

In an earlier post, you said you were confused and asked if you'd missed something. It seemed to me that you wanted clarification. Forgive me for trying to be helpful.

Yep, that confusion had already been cleared up. Then you went on a pedantic post about my "trans" comment, hence the Mr. Dictionary response.

Again, forgive me for expecting you to be curious and open-minded. It always shocks me when I offer information and people see that as an attack rather than a gift. I don't understand that way of thinking, because I love learning new things. I don't lash out at people who offer me knowledge, and I never expect others to do so. And it hurts me when they do, because I'm trying to help, damn it.

Now, Tony is trans...but also gay? Or bisexual? That's a little confusing too.

I still think this needs to be talked about more in the show -- nature vs. nature.

I guess until we get more story, I can see why people haven't connected with Tony yet. What's Tony's story, and is Tony the "tough guy", or more to it than that? (Which i presume, since Tony needed to contact Beth).

i'd like to see a clone that is actually "normal" and "happy"...not perfect, but not so many issues -- until having to deal with being part of a clone conspiracy.

Sometimes you have to realize that providing more information than was requested can read as condescending, unnecessary, and pedantic.

There was no reason to expect me to be curious or open minded because it was not new information. The fact that I put trans in quotes should have been a clue that it was a verbal short cut. Now, instead of assuming I didn't know what I was speaking of, you could have asked for a clarification of what I intended by "trans". Instead you immediately (as usual) decided that you had to enlighten someone. It gets old. Really old.

Sojourner your post read as if you did not understand the details of the trans term, which most people don't until they look into it. Someone answered you. Don't take it personally. I was going to blah blah blah about it myself in response to your post but Christopher did it first.

As to normal clones, yeah Cosima was normal until they got to her, and the one who died that we saw making the video diary had a normal life too until.. she got sick, and they got to her, and she died :(

As to the money for surgery, maybe his friend who died who might have been his monitor found him some sponsorship.. because maybe Dyad likes to play with their toys.

He's a criminal. The money woudn't be as difficult as faking it through therapy or maintaining a consistent line of therapists while he traveled the country committing crimes.

(Hey! This was stolen from Dog Day Afternoon! A criminal using crime to pay for a sex change op.)

Of course Antoinette could have been perfectly upstanding and square, working her insurance company.

Dyad could have set up a surgeon who poses as sympathetic or gets Tony into a fake program where it's all sponsored. If Dyad wanted to track a trans clone they would make it happen.

ANYWAY.........so where the hell is Paul, again?

And I love that murder is the one thing that finally brings Alison and her husband back together. Now they finally have something in common. ;)

Paul was working with/in conjunction with Tony's monitor.

"We're both ghosts."

Sometimes the death of one operative is enough to pull all agents from the field and re access the mission. It just depends if it's the FBI behind this or the CIA.

Tony said that his dead friend/monitor lined up their jobs. That monitor boy had two masters, but it means that one or both of those masters was indirectly feeding Tony extreme amounts of cash to make the Clones life a little easier without effecting objectivity of the blind study completely.
