Orphan Black - Season 2 Discussion

There are 115 million TV homes in the US, and according to Wikipedia BBC America is "available" to 80 million households. I don't know if that's potential subscribers or people who actually have the channel in their cable lineup. Regardless, Netflix has 30 million subscribers which is less than 50% of the potential audience. So I think to be eligible it only has to be available to 50% of TV markets but not necessarily actually subscribed.

To submit for consideration (from the rules) you have to send in 6 episodes for the judges to look at.

I can only imagine that this 1/2 of America rule was invented in the 80s to stop crazy wannabes with a Public Access show sending in 6 hours of their Talk Show where the host interviews her cats.

Tonight's episode was awesome. Can I be a clone so I can kiss Felix?

This show really needs to be renewed already.

At first I thought they'd overreached themselves by having Maslany play a male character, since the makeup and voice weren't very convincing. Having the character be trans made it more believable. I wonder if they have plans for Tony beyond this one episode.

So now Alison and Donnie are bonding in murder guilt. Which is kind of sweet in a twisted way. But Donnie is still a flaming idiot. He used her gun, and put it back in her gun locker? Way to implicate your wife in a homicide, Donald!

I should've known that showing Cosima having so much fun was a setup for having something horrible happen to her. Although I have to wonder if her recreational drug use may have exacerbated her condition.

Ethan dropped quite the bombshell. The clones were meant to be sterile; Sarah and Helena were a mistake in the process. And Rachel has a freakout in her mind's eye (or was that an out-of-sequence thing that really happened after Ethan left?) because her hopes of fixing the problem are dashed. Clearly she desperately wants to be a mommy. Although I shudder to contemplate the life of any child raised by her.

Ghost is another word for spy.

So I'm thinking Military Intelligence.

Was Rachel destroying her office something happening in her imagination, or a flash forward to 4 minutes after the room is cleared of witnesses?

Allion's gun.

Donnie is stupid.

Although, all they need to do, is take the bullet out with plyers and they're fine.

I suppose it they boiled the head in a large soup pot, the flesh and brains would just fall off... Which could take an hour or two, but taking the bullet out tactlessly would leave a massive amount of forensic evidence in their garage. But then Leeky's body is a bomb they can stick anywhere to fuck up someone elses life the Clone Club thinks deserves it.

Oh.

We have two murder victims and two traceable guns in play.

But one incriminates Allison and the other incriminates Feelix.

Anything that tracks back to Rachel will deep six Sarah first, even though she's dead, sorta... The Police must have amended that by now? They know it was Beth who died.

Ok, maybe my original reaction to this episode might have been a slight overreaction, but I actually liked this one more than last weeks. This week felt like we were picking up from the episode two weeks ago, and it feels like a full on sprint to the finale. As for Tony, I didn't really like the make up, but I did like him. I've seen some comments around the internet saying they shouldn't be adding any more clones or with this much story, adding a clone now seemed like a waste, but this wasn't the reaction when we saw Rachel for the first time last year. In fact, I expect to see Tony again either this season or next season. I do kind of wish they would shave the goatee and just dress Maslany "manly".

I wonder why I watch the promos for the next week's episode though. We were ten minutes from the ending and I was like, yeah they are going to end with Cosima having a Seizure. The promos are spoiling too much this season. :(

Anyway, not the best episode of the season, but not the worst either. I'd give it a B.

I think Tony will show up again by the end of the season. Or maybe Cosima dies and Tony s her replacement for the next season (if we get a next season).

I'm not sure if any of you caught this, but during one of the commercial breaks they talked about the make-up for Tony. Apparently the Producers and Tatiana tested a few different ideas before settling on the final look. One of the ideas was to give Tony short hair but they felt having Tatiana's hair wrapped up under it could look fake, so they went with a mullet instead.

Wow, reading some comments about Tony on other message boards, the character does not appear to be received very well. Well I liked him, and I see you guys liked him OK, so I really don't see what the big deal is.

As for the episode itself, I enjoyed it for the most part. It felt a little slow in the middle but I was never bored by it.

Only two episodes left gents, can't wait to see how this ride ends :D

Agh, show, why you add even more plot points?!

Wow, that was weird. Tony was a very interesting idea but unfortunately ultimately served little purpose aside from "yup, we did THAT!". Some of it was the good kind of "we did THAT" but it took up too much time from the other more established plotlines, like that absolute bombshell of a reveal that the clones were barren by design. That whole interaction between Rachel and her father was super interesting. Why exactly does Rachel want to be a mother so bad? Is it just that she can't take the idea of being in any way imperfect? Especially if she was deliberately made that way by her parents? Please show, more on that front, there'll be time for new characters later (well, hopefully!).

Also, nooooo, Cosima. The more her life is in danger, the more interesting she becomes, I hope she's not dead. And Alison is as awesome as ever. "He is not at all well wrapped!" :rommie: But no Helena again... Man, this show needs more episodes per season.

Dyad wins so ultimately 2 episodes from now, that they all decide to transgender up and go into hiding as bearded ladies.

Godzilla is Japanese for Whale-Gorilla.

Best Wuzzel evah.

Not impressed with her acquisition of Fathers.

Of course her recreational sex might have nothing to do with where she is sourcing her baby sauce from.

I think the show has ticked all the LBGTQ letters now (though previously the T might've been for tail :)).

I can totally see that reaction to Tony.

Somehow I was always under the impression that the clones being barren was intentional and so that didn't hit me as much as others.

There is any number of ways they could have introduced the notion that Paul is something more than he is letting on. Creating a brand new character solely for that reason seems like overkill, unless they plan to use him/her again. I'm leaning towards the latter, assuming we get a season 3 he could be a big part of it.

Considering that it was abundantly clear all the way back in the first season, I don't see what the point of the "big reveal" was anyway. Aside from trying to cover up the Donny stuff from the first season somehow (where he was super competent, able to withstand torture, and had a hidden cache of spook stuff that he switched with porn when he realized Alison was snooping around for clues, but it hardly does that.
