They've written a couple of movies I really liked ( both Treks) and one I didn't like at all (Transformers).

I think they did ok with ST '09 & STID.
Transformers, the first one, was entertaining as fuck.
It was okay. By the final third of the film, I was pretty bored.
All of those movies are prime examples of editorial nightmare. They need to be trimmed.
The premise "Giant robots from outer space that transform into cars and stuff and then fight" does not need to be two hours and forty minutes. Especially when it's mostly just stupid human comic relief filling all that bloated space.
I hated it and ate my mozzarella sticks bitterly afterward when my friends dragged me to see it in 2007. When critical opinion of the sequels fell apart, I couldn't help feeling like the world came to its senses one film too late on that franchise. (Of course, they make boats and boats and boats of cash, all of them, so hey.)
I was pretty cynical about anything attempting to be stupid-funny when I was 19, though. I might enjoy it a bit more now.
Agreed. I'm a TF fan just as much as a Trek fan, and I love that movie.
Unfortunately, all of its sequels went downhill for me. AOE was a little better, but not by much.
O & K brought back the sense of fun, adventure and excitement that had been sorely missing from Trek. They did a fine job.

I thought Orci and Kurtzman did great work, all things considered. (Except for "Khan!") There are a lot of funny and poignant lines, and the story and character development are cleverly integrated. My issues with ST09 and STID are mostly to do with the director's choices.
I lasted about 5 minutes.
I think Orci and Kurtzman did a good job with Star Treks XI and XII. I've always felt that Trek movies should be bigger in scale and with a higher action quotient than in TV episodes and O&K delivered that while at the same time keeping a focus on the characters and doing different things with them.

Star Trek 2009 was a fun popcorn flick with a bit too much fan service.
STID was nothing but fan service and made me gag.
The one criticism on both is the absurd villains, and more specifically, the unbeatable ship. The romulans in the 1st were pure mustache twirlers. Overall, I believe it's just a lazy way of creating drama in to make the antagonist overpowered. That just irritates me. And if the Klingons in the 3rd one have a ship 5x the size of the Enterprise, with enough firepower to destroy the entire federation fleet by itself, I'll be quite annoyed. I just expect a bit more inspired story telling in my blockbusters.
