A full trailer for The Hangover: Part II. Looks like it's going to be one hell of a ride.

I love how they're just shamelessly copying the first movie.

Yeah, they changed locations and that's about it. Some of the gags and it seems like even some of the lines in that trailer are in the first movie.

But, honestly, more power to them :p

Well, they might more or less follow the same notes or whatever, but why mess with what worked the first time around? And can one really "copy" their own work? But we're judging an entire movie based on two trailers, this one giving us a bit more plot details, and at least this time around Doug isn't the missing man.

I've a feeling the movie may surprise us even if it does follow similar beats.

Hangover - Bachelor party
Hangover II - Bachelor party

Hangover - Trashed, waking up with no idea of what happened

Hangover - Doug missing
Hangover II - Little brother missing

Hangover - Waking up with strange animal in the room

It'll be hilarious, though :D

We can play this game with almost any series of movies sequels are always going to have similarities to their predecessors. The point is the formula in "The Hangover" worked and worked quite well and it wasn't what had happened that drove the story but the characters and the dialogue. So who cares if it's pretty much the same story?

Both "Home Alone" movies followed the same basic story.

All four "Die Hard" movies followed the same basic story.

Hell, the most popular sitcoms of the last quarter-century followed the same basic story in every episode! Quick, tell me the name of the "Frasier" episode where there's some sort of confusion or misunderstanding of events where things get franticly and franticly more chaotic until finally the bubble bursts and the trouble gone to to keep the chaos secret ends up being time wasted. Tell me the name of the Seinfeld episode where the characters' various social problems results in a misunderstanding and/or personal trouble. Tell me the name of the Friends episode where someone has trouble on a date. Tell me the name of the "Three's Company" episode where there's some-sort-of misunderstanding.

We could play this game all night, is it the same basic story from what we can figure from a two-minute trailer? Yep, looks like it. But since it's a two-hour movie I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt that it doesn't exactly follow the movie in the same way or that if it does there's enough original stuff there to make it worthwhile or at least the three core actors will pull it off.
