I'm 3 episodes behind (and intend to get caught up Monday), but wanted to say that making Wish!Rumple the series' "ultimate" villain is not a development that I saw coming... and yet it doesn't at all seem all that surprising.

I think Gothel is (or was) the big bad this whole season. Wish Rumple is just an afterthought.
Yeah, she was. Wish Rumple is just the villain for the finale, which I think is a brilliant movie. Gothel was a good new villain for the new storyline, but bringing in a villain with a stronger connection to the series history, will do a lot to really make it feel like a true series finale, rather than just another season finale.
I was pretty happy with this as the end of the current storyline. I like how they had the call to his past self as the thing that woke Henry up. Alice/Tilly being the one to defeat Gothel was not something I saw coming.

Well, that wraps up the plethora of plotlines that swirled throughout the final season, I guess. A bit clumsily and awkwardly, and leaving a few questions unanswered, but at least everybody (except Gothel and Facilier) get to live happily ever after-- until the next dramatic crisis (which the brief peeks at Storybrook tell us is a neverending story. But at least Henry and Ella and Lucy are all reunited, with Lucy still feeling like an afterthought in her own story, as are Alice and Robin. And Regina has Henry back (and Gold-- odd that she called him Gold, rather than Rumple or Weaver). Rumpy is still not reunited with Belle, but that will presumably happen in the finale.
So this curse not only transported everyone to the real Seattle, rather than creating a fictitious town like the first one did, but it also moved everyone through time. Interestingly, the breaking of the curse did not seem to restore them to either their proper place or time, so they are presumably still in the past, and still messing up the timeline, as they have been for all these years. Will Regina or Rumpy or Alice be able to put them back where they belong, or will they have to wait out those fifteen years before going back to Storybrook-- while continuing to mess with the timeline as they wait? Maybe they'll be able to fudge it by moving through other realms where time moves differently.
And now we're left on the cliffhanger note of Rumpy versus Rumpy, which will be an appropriate finale-- he'll have the opportunity to defeat himself at last.

Given how long ago Adam and Eddy worked out their broad-strokes plans for Season 7 (as far back as November of 2016) and also given the fact that "flipping the script" like this is one of their established narrative devices, there is no doubt in my mind that bringing Wish Rumple in at the last minute is something that they had planned for quite a while, and likely since before the decision was made to end the series at 7 seasons.
Maybe afterthought was not the right word, but yes, Rumple is the ultimate villain. Still, it was Gothel who cast the curse and was responsible for everyone ending up in Hyperion Heights; she was the main villain this season.
I think they're finally finally confronting Rumpelstiltskin as the last villain to face because . . . well, he started all of this. I mean, his decisions and his actions kickstarted the series' entire premise from the beginning. And they've been hinting this ever since Belle's death in "Beauty" and Dr. Facilier's first appearance in "Greenbacks".
Regina cast the Curse; Gothel merely helped Drizella craft it so that it included a time travel component and sent everyone in the "New" Enchanted Forest to Seattle.
Emma, Charming, Snow, and the rest of our beloved returning characters are returning because the show is headed back to Storybrooke for the finale.
I wasn't expecting to see Wish Realm Henry teaming up with Wish Realm Rumple.
Looks like they're saving the major guest stars for the Grand Finale next week, but it was nice to see Ariel and the Sorcerer's Apprentice in particular. I wonder who will show up next week besides the Charmings and Emma.
But this is shaping up to be a nice climax to the show, bringing everything back to its roots. Mirror Rumpy didn't want the dagger after all-- he wanted the Author's Pen. That was a nice twist. It was also interesting that a Mirror version of Young Henry is in on the villainy. And the original Rumpelstiltskin has evolved so much as a character that he is no match for his Belle-less self.

Awesome finale! The ending was perfect, even more so than last year's. We even find out who Lily's father was and boy is it a dousy! I hope in a few years someone will either revive OUAT or create a spinoff or perhaps do both. The finale while a great conclusion to the series also opens many opportunities for new stories to be told.
I'm wondering how all the realms are able to fit inside Storybrook. Is it kind of like the TARDIS now? It's pretty cool and it looks like a Disneyland Storybrooke themed park. Regina started off as the Evil queen and now she's The Good Queen...just a nice beautiful ending.
My guess is they don't. My guess is that the final curse expanded Storybrooke while only taking major geographical features of the other realms into this one to prevent Storybrooke from expanding to too large of a size.
I have to say I liked this series finale better than the season finale last year, which at the time seemed like a more appropriate ending to the series. The penultimate episode featured Wish Henry, Wish Pan, Wish Apprentice, Wish Ariel, and Wish Cruella while the finale brought us back to where it all started in Storybrooke - with many of the familiar characters like Snow, Charming, Granny, the Dwarves, etc.
So what happened at the end when all the realms were combined? Which was crowned the leader of all the realms, was it Modern Regina or Future Regina? Or were they somehow merged into one version? Ditto for young Henry - was it Wish Henry or Modern Henry? Future Henry was of course distinguishable.

I think it would be fun for somebody to put together a montage of all 156 broadcast episodes of the series set to Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" in tribute to what Adam and Eddy accomplished.
It's been a long journey for them since they first conceived the idea for OUaT back in 2002, but they finally got there and have us 7 incredible seasons, on the whole, of television that was unlike anything that came before it.

Zorro's name was certainly a nod to the Land of Unfinished Tales from a few seasons back when they included non- fairy tale characters like Jekyll and Hyde.
The final scene - Regina's coronation - was a bit corny. Snow was saying how all the realms decided to make Regina their leader, dubbing her the Good Queen. It just felt contrived. Other than that, it was a nice conclusion overall.
Apparently the rights to Zorro are not in the public domain, so a reference was the only thing Adam and Eddy could finagle.
