Ona Grauer in Universe?

Crewman47

Commodore
Newbie
Before Universe started I didn't know that Ona Grauer, who previoulsy played the Ancient found in Antartica in SG1 and shown in the pilot of Atlantis, was going to be recurring Human character but when I saw her name on the intro credits of Universes' pilot my first thought was that they were going to show us again the Ancients on Destiny first, like maybe have Grauers character on board for some reason before moving to Atlantis on Earth, before zipping forward to the present day.

I know the Stargate producers are quite good at putting actors in multple roles as I noticed they did one time in Atlantis with Weirs husband(?) who previously Nerrim of the Tolan in SG1 but did anyone think this when they saw her name for the first time, or was it just me?

I didn't even recognize Young's wife as the Ancient that the actress played before, and yet I had recognized her when there was a brief flashback to the launch of Atlantis, showing the same Ancient woman remaining behind.

Eh. She looks different enough on SGU where I can accept her as the newer character without connecting to the old.

As for Weir's...um...friend?...I say "lazy casting director". He was far too recognizeable as the Tolen. It annoyed me when we saw him on Atlantis.

^ So has Star Trek and ... anything written/produced by Whedon.

I don't care they repeated an actor. Stargate has done it many times in the past.

Yep. Now I don't mind if they reuse actors who played one-off minor characters. But Stargate has reused actors that had portrayed rather significant roles, and that really distracts me when I watch. For example, the actor who played a young George Hammond in "1969" was cast as some Major guy in season 8's "Lockdown". Also, the actor who had a recurring role on SG-1 as the Tollan Narim was cast in yet another recurring role, this time as Dr. Weir's love interest, Simon on Atlantis.

I didn't notice the young Hammond showing up again, but I thought it was a mistake to reuse the actor who played Tollan on SG-1. He had such a memorable role that it was distracting to see him show up in such a minor part on Atlantis.

You must have been really bothered by Carson Beckett then.

Nope. I never even realized the actor they cast as Beckett was on Stargate previously until Atlantis was well underway, even though I had seen "Torment of Tantalus" prior to Atlantis' premiere. Young Ernest Littlfield was just too brief and unmemorable a role.

Honestly, I still have trouble believing he's the same person without (or with, depending on how you see it) the accent.
