On season 4 of Buffy...should I be watching Angel?

I watched the first two episodes of Supernatural but might want to wait a little to continue. It seems okay and I like Sam & Dean's interaction but it also kinda seems like Buffy lite.

Oh, it is so not Buffy-lite. It gradually gets WAY darker than Buffy ever did (Angel too). Doesn't mean better, but definitely darker. You have to give it some time. I picked the show up from the start of season 4 because that was when a key character makes his first appearance, and went all the way through 9.

I liked it so much that I went back and watched the first 3 seasons. Not the ideal way of watching, but I actually recommend this method for this show.

I watched the first two seasons. It took a little bit for me to really get going on S1, but once I did I was pretty much hooked for those two seasons.

There was a bit of a change of premise at the beginning of S3 though, or so it seemed, and I did that thing I do sometimes where I watched the first episode of the season, then put it down and haven't yet gotten back to it. I mean to, I just keep having other things I'd rather watch thrown at me.

You know one question they shied away from in the Angel series is whether Lorne had a soul, and why he would ever want to join Angel's team. Lorne was a lawful neutral with both good and evil clientele, who hated violence himself but abetted the violent. Why would he want to hang out with a chaotic good crusader who was a violence magnet, and even invite in his evil clientele?

I guess when they decided to make him a regular it made more narrative sense to have him be hanging with Angel instead of making frequent excuses to be drawn in, but it made so much sense when he split at the end you realize it made no sense that he didn't leave earlier.

To be fair, he didn't really "stick around" so much as he kept getting sucked into their drama. Angel and Co. used his services to help them see their path, which resulted in them hanging out at Caritas a lot.

Until it got trashed several times.

After Season 3, Lorne does end up leaving. Remember, he ends up having his own show in Las Vegas. He's held captive, and he calls out to Angel, Fred, and Gunn for help.

At that point he probably didn't know where else to go, and he had friends at Angel, Inc, so he stuck around.

After all the stuff with Jasmine is dealt with, W&H offers him a job as head of their entertainment division. For someone like Lorne, that job would have been a dream.

I the Vegas act hadn't turned out to be run by evil demons, I bet he would have stayed there.

He would have stayed there, but afterward he happily moved back into the hotel.

You know I keep thinking, the current election would be a perfect Angel ep. Wolfram & Hart would be the perfect explanation for the current trends in the polls. Now if only we could find the amulet we need to destroy.

By the way. I was at pub trivia tonight and there was a question where you had to know the name of the actress who played Tara.

Thanks guys. We came in second by one point. You guys won me a ten dollar gift certificate. ;)
