OMG! New preview! And it's great!

We are all basing our opinions on what we have seen. There is nothing wrong with that.

Except we haven't seen anything really. Just a few glimpses. That's liking walking past a restaurant with a picture of a meal outside and basing your whole review of their cooking and ingredients on one damned picture.

You can't have an opinion of a show when the show hasn't aired and you haven't seen it yet. You can only have a educated guess. There's a difference there.

Looks great finally!
Yeah how can you dissect DSC based on a 3 min trailer? Trailer are made for No-Trek-Fans, these are the majorities who will watch the show and hopefully go back to watch every other shows and share with others that ST is great. They don't need to make trailers for fans.

And please, we are in 2017 ant this will be the ST show most watched in ST history thanks to Netflix, you just can't make a copy of TOS with the technology and tecnique and dialogues used 50 years ago and hope that the new generations will like it. This will be a semi-reboot that hopefully will gather a new generation of Trek fan and from what I have watched and readed until now, the premise are good. It will not be great as TOS, but it can be the starting point for 21th century ST, and I repeat, from trailers and statement the premise are good for today TV standards that are on another level compared to TOS era standards.

I urge you all to spread the premiere date of DSC and let everyone judge for themself, remember that casual watchers will have a very different opinion from you that are many years that delve into ST mythology, they will compare ST with moderns great shows, not with a 50 years old show.
More watchers ---> more money ---> more shows and quality
Your duty as Trek fans is to spread the word even if you not like DSC premise, because you will paid back in the future if many will watch the shows, you can't think for the present, cause if DSC will be a flop there will be NEVER another Trek show, never another opportunity to make a great ST show. On specialized website like this one you can rant all you want, but in casual websites and with real life friends your duty is to spread the word to every person you can.

Completely agree. I have never seen one trailer that had any context at all, just some disparate scenes in no particular order. Even if they showed us a solid 5 minute clip it would be impossible to gauge the whole series from it.

I have no "duty" as a fan.

Based on the promotion over the last couple of weeks I'm not in a hurry to subscribe. I'll catch the premiere on broadcast and then probably get All-Access afterward. We'll see.

So many Chicken Littles in here judging a 15 hour show on :90 second trailers...........same people in a few weeks "We need more action!"

I think the big thing to be worried about is if people are going "I really wish they'd bring Star Trek back" in a few weeks and go watch The Orville.

I blame the PR people.

We already know Season 2 won't be about the war, so not the entire series is.

We know nothing of the kind. Like most TV, if it first season is a raging success, they will figure out how to keep the war going.

Really not too concerned about that............I don't remember so many weed references in REAL Trek........

This post will self-destruct in five seconds?

You're making assumptions based on lighting. There have been a total of about 4 minutes out of 15 hours shown. I even saw someone complain that the SPACE shots were dark. I mean, COME. ON.

Well we can only make assumptions on what we have seen. I'm not even saying it's bad to have a dark and gritty look. All anyone is trying to do is predict what they think it will be and whether or not they will like it. I have a question. Why do you think the show will be good because you have the same limited amount of info as anyone else? Aren't you making your assumptions on the same amount of data as everyone else?

For me I think the show is going to be good but I am just not sold on that opinion as much as you seem to be. I can see things in it that might work against it. It's all just fun speculation right now which is what internet tends to thrive on when it comes to new tv shows that people are looking forward to.

Then you haven't payed attention. They said there IS a war. Not that the show is about that war. During the Second World War, the US was fighting in it. For most people, the only actual aspect of that war was what was in the papers. They didn't actually experience that war. Their daily lives just went on. You can tell a thousand types of stories in a universe where a war is going on. You can even have episodes that are completely without any kind of battle, and still show the emotional aspect of what happens to people during a time of war. Discovery is orbiting a planet while making some repairs after a heavy battle. People take some time to explore this new planet. Talk amongst themselves, about what this conflict is doing to them. Making a new discovery on the planet in the mean time.

That's all possible but if the show is arc based wouldn't that mean it would be a loose arc if done this way or is the show going to be like having one episode bleed into the other? For all we know the entire first season could take place in one month, or another short amount of time like the first few seasons of "Lost" or "Orphan Black" or will it be a year long journey. If it's the first I would expect a heavier amount of action and perhaps a focus on one mission. If it's longer I would expect something more character oriented as the characters have to endure the struggle over time and also maybe we would see more strategy about the war and what is happening on other fronts. This one kind of makes sense to me if we will be seeing some of he show from the Klingon perspective. Either way I don't see much exploring in any situation though I could see third party somehow getting involved, which might be a new race or even a older one like the Romulans and somehow it would involve Mudd in some way.

They did say that the ship is an exploration vessel that has been thrust into the war, and the crew are explorers and scientists who have unwillingly needed to deal with the war, so I think it is possible that we will see at least some exploration.

I mean, I suppose if the characters are at least in part being driven by the angst resulting from the idea that "we are explorers, not soldiers" (which is what some of the actors' interviews have told us), then we would need to SEE them doing both...

...at least that's what I expect.

That's possible but it does seem weird to build off angst over something that you haven't already established on the show. MIght have been better to do a year of exploring and getting to know the characters and then have the war happen and see those peaceful explorers change from who they were in season 1 to season 2. Starting off with war almost feels like they are skipping ahead to the middle of a story. Granted I had the idea awhile back that show might use flashbacks and we could see Burnham in particular from her time as first officer with Yeoh or time on Vulcan with Sarek.

I think they could establish relatively quickly that they are explorers AND have theme being thrust into a war, and have that idea reinforced each week as they:

a) Try to explore while the damn war keeps getting in the way
and/or
b) Actively support the war effort/engage in war, but still take time explore and discover while doing so.

I have no idea if that's what will happen, but I'm simply stating that there are ways to both establish/show they are explores while at the same time fighting a war.
