OMG! New preview! And it's great!

Has there actually ever been any promotional material, any trailer, or even a single interview, that doesn't focus on the war with the klingons for this show?

I'm honestly already tired of this war arc even before I have seen the very first episode of it...

Yeah, the focus on war worries me too. I hope it is just the beginning shot, and we get to TUC style diplomacy and intrigue soon.

Look forward to seeing more of the Klingons-there's a sentence I never thought I would write.
I've always loved the Klingons (kind of married one :p) but... I'm more excited having read hints about what they're doing. That "remain Klingon" promo alone is something that really intrigues me.

I love the new Klingon design, but I am tried of Klingons. I would have preferred they art department had put those same energies into something else - a new race perhaps or even Rommies would be preferable.

I recall one that was simply a bright light behind a captain's chair, and another that was just the show logo.

Looks like a Star Trek war series, or at least that's how they keep advertising it. It sure seems they want us to think it's a war show.
I blame the PR people.

We already know Season 2 won't be about the war, so not the entire series is.

It's clearly conflict based. War. Fighting. Aggression. Why is it even called Discovery?

I think it's fairly obvious that the show focuses on the emotional discovery of its main character, rather than just exploration and wonky-alien-of-the-week episodes. The escalating Klingon conflict and the ambitious Federation serve as a backdrop to Burnham and her personal story arc. Or maybe it's more accurate to say that we'll explore the story through her journey. Either way, that's what the discovery refers to.

This is actually pretty ground-breaking for Star Trek, and, if you ask me, something that was badly needed from a new show. Everyone's so obsessed with outer exploration that they forget the inner one that keeps asking questions about what it means to be human in this rapidly expanding universe.

If there's one thing that drove me mad about Trek in the past it's how the characters always pretended that they already knew the answer to these questions, but they never gave a hint as to how they had obtained these great insights. It made it hard to relate to them during the best of times. It made you want to punch them in the face at their worst.

Clearly

Clearly you're only making assumptions off short clips from one episode.
Clearly you know everything from a 60-second clip.
Clearly all 15 episodes will be distilled into just what we've seen, even though they're still filming.
Clearly what the production team said means nothing.

Clearly

I really hope the action stuff is fun because I am worried about the dialogue and to be honest Burnham's backstory is a concern and not just because of the silly idea of making her a sister to Spock. I don't know if I really want to follow a rigid hard ass who isn't in touch with their emotions. I was hoping for a character with a sense of humor and some quirks. A Kirk,O'Neil or Malcom Reynolds type only this time that type of character is a woman. A little angst but not overdone angst. I hope they find the right balance or at least have enough funny people around to balance it out.
