Thousands of years ago, the ancient Egyptians invented the BATTERY, with the purpose of plating gold and silver on to other, less precious metals like copper and perhaps even brass. That knowledge was lost until just 204 years ago when some fella named Alessandro VOLTA 'invented' it again (or was it the Energizer bunny?) ...
Knowledge can be lost, suppressed or twisted out of context.
If you've got a few thousand years of seperation, a couple of language barriers and a few destructive military campaigns with neither side truly interested in science and technology, then you could justify the loss of the information. It helps if the culture becomes more or less extinct in the meantime.
But in an age marked by global and interstellar communication, digital recording media, a standardized language, widespread literacy and tertiary education, a collective effort to make contact with alien life forms
and a centralized organization (Starfleet) that handles these things and
doesn't become conveniently extinct, suddenly you've got a completely different environment regarding the spread and storage of information
Trying to pull the same disappearing act, well,
that is twisting it out of context. These are different situations, with different people with different priorities. Drawing a parallel isn't just a stretch, it's a break.
BTW, Enterprise is meant to be about humanity's first big push into deep space, depending on their ingenuity, resourcefullness and courage. Making Enterprise about how humanity blazed into glory on the wings of
BORG (

) is a waste of the premise and of the oxygen that fuels our brain cells.
But then, we can always rely on B&B
