Okay, what about a remake of JMS's Crusade?

For those who don't know what Crusade is, it was a Babylon 5 spin-off that takes place three years after the Telepath War. The crew of the starship Excalibur embarks on a search for a cure to a bio-engineered plague that infected everyone on Earth. They have five years to find a cure and if they don't by that time, everyone on Earth will die. The show suppose to be a five-year story arc but the show was canceled before it could complete its first season. Now JMS has said that the search for a cure to the plague wouldn't be the center of the show but rather something to pull viewers in at the beginning. He planned for things to take a different direction in the second season when the crew goes rogue and fights against a conspiracy within Earthforce.

Now, you have been placed in charge of a remake on this show and since the show was cancelled and we don't know the full extent of JMS's plans for the rest of the series past the crew going rogue, you have free range to take things wherever you want. Hell, you can change elements of the universe that the show takes place in and makes it different from the Babylon 5 universe some ways since it won't be a remake of the original Babylon 5 show, which would piss off a lot of the hardcore B5 fans.

If one were to change elements of the B5 universe, how would it be any kind of spinoff then? Ripoff, perhaps, but not spinoff since, with a very few exceptions, the B5 universe was remarkably good at keeping the details of its universe consistant.

Generally speaking, bad TV that no one watches doesn't lead to remakes very often. Bad TV that lots of people watch - like the 1978 BSG - sometimes does.

Jan: I know, it's a spin-off. But to make a remake on the show, some things would have to be changed or improved while some of the other things stick to the original, the same as any other remake from Battlestar Galactica to Flash Gordon.

Frankly the concept behind Crusade never made a whole lot of sense to me. What's the big deal with the Excalibur, when the entire Ranger fleet could have been out searching?

What if the people on Earth are infected with the plague but they don't know it? The Drakh have somehow secretly infected them and only the government has knowledge of it. To prevent a massive panic, the government keeps the plague a secret but comes up with some lie to maintain a strict quarantine of the planet so no one else planning to go to Earth could get infected and no one else carrying the infection can leave the planet, unintentionally spreading the disease.

The Excalibur is chosen to go on the mission because the ship won't attract as much attention as the entire Ranger fleet going off to find a cure to the plague.

I would just do a remake of Uchuu Senkan Yamato (better known to the US public as Starblazers), which Crusade is based on. That would be a kick-ass series!

The Drahk plague wasn't the point of the show and sadly I don't think if anybody else tries to take over the show they wouldn't understand that fact.

I'd love to see the story of Crusade finished. My change would be putting more Rangers in the crew of the ship, and as much Galen as possible, and as little Lochley as possible.

Alrighty, Joe. I'm curious. What's your fascination with starting threads about remaking television shows?

It's just that I wondered about these things while I'm watching TV. About shows that had so much potential being canceled before they had time to really show what they were made of like Odyssey 5 and Threshold. And other shows who start off strong and only end in a whimper and wondering how things would have been if things have taken a different direction like Battlestar Galactica.

I'm someone who comes from watching shows like The Shield, the Wire, Dexter, Six Feet Under, and others. Shows that are strong examples of what a TV show should be, unlike the crappy reality TV and the TV series that are going through a downward spiral like Heroes, Weeds, and the increasingly unlikeable Nip/Tuck.

Well, you see, I'm understandably curious about your reason for posting them. You've only been here for - as of this post - forty-eight hours, and you've already created ten threads. Each of them has been the same thing, asking about a remake of a television show. Granted, they are not all in the same forum, and you've been careful not to go over the "3 threads per forum per day" rule, but I still wonder what your reason for these specific posts would be?

Are you someone who has been here before and was asked to leave? Are you someone who has just recently found this place? I don't know. But I do keep seeing the same content copied all over the place, from the same poster, and that usually indicates someone who is only here to cause trouble.

OmahaStar: No, I've never registered here before. And I'm sorry if it seems like I'm causing trouble. That was never my intention. I just want to hear people's thoughts on these ideas. That's all. And I'll try to come with more threads that aren't about remakes in the future.

And I would also like to point out that I have posted eight threads on this forum and only two of them are about remakes. The rest are about adaptations, TV non-remake ideas, and comic books.

That type of speculation and investigation is a job best left to the administrators to handle.

Joe, there is one thing that needs to be pointed out. You need to avoid the double posting - two consecutive posts - where possible. It's no great crime, but you have doubled up several times. If you have an additional comment to make, that's when the Edit button comes in handy. I'd have mentioned this to you privately, but as yet you cannot receive PM's this was my only option..
