Ok. What is the chance of a Picard spinoff?

I'm tired of 23rd century Trek.

It's been done, done, and OVERDONE. :shifty:

Before someone mentions how much 24th/25th Century there's been

That'll be me. I've updated this chart to include everything that has been aired so far, with the exception of "Short Treks."

The 24th/25 Century makes up over 2/3rds of the entire franchise. I'd say it's time to let the other eras have their fair share.
people here like to act as if 2399-2402 are part of the same era as 2364-2379.

Considering the amount of fans who consider it an extention of "The Berman Era," I think it's fair to include them together.

Yeah, you're the one I had in mind. ;)

This is true, but I think they're wrong. A continuation of the story, yes, but not an extension. Rick Berman would never have allowed something like Picard Season 1. Picard Season 2 and 3 maybe, but I see enough differences beat-for-beat that I wouldn't consider them the same either.

Also, I don't think TWOK is the same era as "Space Seed", even though someone could say TWOK is an extension.

I don't consider TOS and the TOS Movies to be part of the same era. It's actually three eras. TOS, TMP, and TWOK-TUC. Similarly, I think of TNG, the TNG Movies, and PIC as different eras. Just like IRL, I mostly consider different decades to be different eras. I'd explain the exact ways I'd break down different eras IRL, but that would take us too far off-topic.

The absolute furthest I'll go is agreeing with people who think Picard -- as a whole -- is a fusion of Berman Trek and Kurtzman Trek. But that's an example of Chemistry. H2O makes Water. Say Kurtzman Trek is Hydrogen and Berman Trek is Oxygen, in this case. Take out the hydrogen and you don't have water anymore. Just air.

I would be fine with the 25th century PROVIDED THAT we get away from well-established characters

This is how I'd want it. The 25th century is a fine place to set a series, just give us something new. Give us an actual TNG 2.0 with all new characters.

I tend to view an era by the characters inhabit it. 23rd Century is the era of Kirk and Spock. 22nd Century is Archer. 24th and now 25th is Picard, etc. Now this upcoming Section 31 film pokes holes in my way of thinking, but we'll what they do with the Lost Era.

Why ask 24th/25th century Trek to do it?

Well for one, we've seen a hell of a lot more of the 24th century characters, dispite the fact that they've never been as popular as the 23rd century characters.

To a great many people, Star Trek still equals Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock. Just from a marketing standpoint, I can understand why Paramount always wants to keep some connection with that.

There will always be a place for Kirk and Spock.

That said, how long before we begin paving over cow paths? What will SNW achieve that hasn't already been covered by the Kelvin films?

Disco/SNW couldn't do it ("Pike! Kirk! Spock! Chapel! Uhura! Scotty!").

Why ask 24th/25th century Trek to do it?

While I enjoy SNW, I admit that at some point, there will be enough with the 23rd century characters for me. I personally feel like we’ve spent enough time with Picard, Riker, Data, Worf, Geordi, Beverly and Deanna. Time to let those characters rest. I don’t believe any follow up to DS9 would do those characters justice (particularly if somehow they brought back Sisko). Voyager has had good follow-ups with Picard and Prodigy. I personally don’t need anything else with any of these shows. That’s my opinion. Thats all.

And then there's weirdos like me who want to see them take another crack at the 22nd century. I'd love a show set on a ship in the 2160s, shortly after the Federation's founding, with a mixed crew of different species all trying to figure out how to get along and work together. Probably never gonna happen, alas.
I'd love this.

That’s actually a really good idea. You add that frontier feel with a group of differing personalities and viewpoints. I could get behind something like that.

I'm also picking up a running theme of his showrunning credits:

12 Monkeys - reboot of existing IP
MacGyuver - reboot of existing IP
Picard - continuation of existing IP
Vision - continuation of existing IP
Enemy Mine - reboot of existing IP
12M was an original that then adapted some of the film characteristics.

And, of course, what percentage of Kurtzman's stuff has been original? You need to go back to COYBOWS AND ALIENS, THE ISLAND, ALIAS... FRINGE. And the later two are just LA FEMME NIKITA with a larger budget and X-FILES meets SLIDERS.

I'm tired of 23rd century Trek.
I'm tired of 23rd century reboot revisionist reinterpretation Trek. A fresh take on the TOS era treating it as a period piece in full continuity would be interesting, instead we just get half measure Abrams Trek.

I'd be down for a one off SNW episode filmed on the TOS sets in Ticonderoga.

They can put everyone into TOS uniforms, with TOS hairstyles. They can have the Enterprise look exactly like it did in TOS. Hell, they can film and score it just like a classic episode.

I think it would make for a great episode, but only if not a single person or thing draws attention to the fact it looks like 1966.

It needs to be like they just picked any random script from an upcoming season, written exactly as they normally would, but made it look like The Original Series. Next episode, everything is back to "normal" without a single thing mentioned.

Aren't these just fan films and series now? You're never going to see a TOS set or aesthetic again officially, otherwise.
Well, there could always be something like "In A Mirror, Darkly" or "Trials and Tribble-ations" again. But it's better for the franchise to go forward and build on what's already happened, just like TNG did. The 32nd century was botched beyond repair, but there's still the 25th century. Doesn't necessarily have to be 2402, why not 2450? Just keep the CW + MCU tone and quips out of it please.

Maybe this is a divide between fans that like the overall format vs the lore?

They won't do this. But this is what I'd do: I'd have a mini-series along the same lines as For All Mankind, except instead of every season taking place 10 years later, every episode would take place 10 years later.

There would be some story following a character, a group of characters, and eventually their children/descendants. It would be a story that somehow involves the Enterprise. It would be an 18-chapter series.

Ep 1) 2155: Prologue: The Enterprise NX-01 under Captain Archer, not too long after "Terra Prime". Background and backstory for what the story, whatever it is, will be.
Ep 2) 2245: Time Skip. The Enterprise NCC-1701 newly commissioned and under the command of Captain April. Where the main story really begins.
Ep 3) 2255: The Enterprise under Captain Pike, a year after "The Cage".
Ep 4) 2265: The Enterprise under Captain Kirk, at the beginning of the Five-Year Mission.
Ep 5) 2275: The Enterprise under Admiral Kirk, after TMP, on his second Five-Year Mission.
Ep 6) 2285: The Enterprise under Captain Spock as a Cadet Ship, while Admiral Kirk wishes he had command again.
Ep 7) 2295: The Enterprise-B under Captain Harriman, who is still unfavorably compared to Kirk.
Ep 8) 2305: The Enterprise-B with Captain Harriman as a more experienced and accomplished captain.
Ep 9) 2315: The Enterprise-B under Captain Demora Sulu.
Ep 10) 2325: The Enterprise-B under Captain Whoever.
Ep 11) 2335: The Enterprise-C under the command of Captain Garrett.
Ep 12) 2345: A year after the Enterprise-C was lost, the Enterprise-A stands in for the 100th Anniversary of the 1701's launch.
Ep 13) 2355: Picard loses the Stargazer. Meanwhile the next Enterprise is decided to be Galaxy Class, which is currently on the drawing board.
Ep 14) 2365: The Enterprise-D under Captain Picard.
Ep 15) 2375: The Enterprise-E under Captain Picard, during the Dominion War.
Ep 16) 2385: The Enterprise-E under Captain Worf, as whatever wasn't his fault happened.
Ep 17) 2395: The Enterprise-F under the command of Captain Whoever, flagged by Admiral Shelby.
Ep 18) 2405: The Enterprise-G under the command of Captain Seven.

I'd also love if someone tried something like this with a novel.

EDITED TO ADD: Now I can't get this idea out of my head. Looking in on the Enterprise every 10 years, with some sort of story that connects it all. This'll be a mind-game, fan-fiction side-project I'll have off-and-on in the back of my mind now.
